Supplications for the deceased

[Bashiru_llah]

This is a beautiful Dua ( supplication , like a prayer ) that are recited to the Lord for a deceased at a funeral or by yourself

“O God , forgive and have mercy upon him, excuse him and pardon him, and make honorable his reception. Expand his entry, and cleanse him with water, snow, and ice, and purify him of sin as a white robe is purified of filth. Exchange his home for a better home, and his family for a better family . Admit him into the Garden, protect him from the punishment of the grave and the torment of the Fire .”
“O God , (Name of the person) is under Your care and protection so protect him from the trial of the grave and torment of the Fire. Indeed You are faithful and truthful. Forgive and have mercy upon him, surely You are The Oft-Forgiving, The Most-Merciful”

After people hear’s about the death of someone , they recite a well known verse from the Quran :
“إِنَّا لِلّهِ وَإِنَّـا إِلَيْهِ رَاجِعونَ” “We belong to God and to him we shall return” Quran 2:156

Says we belong to God in Romans 14:8 as well.

Nice to know Muslims pray for their dead as well. So Jews, Muslims and most of Christianity prays for their loved ones who have passed. That’s good… I think it’s uncharitable and presumptuous not to.

There are some teachings that are either being suppressed, or forgotten. For example, traditionally the orthodox Ahlus Sunnah held the belief that it is possible to pass on good deeds to deceased loved ones, and they in turn after receiving these good deeds would pass them on to their deceased loved ones; so good deeds does not only benefit the individual who performs the deed, but benefits many. This belief is rejected by the heterodox Wahhabi and Salafi movements.

Another belief that is being forgotten, is what happens to the souls of the believers after death. The souls of the common/sinful believers are permitted on certain evenings to visit the homes of their loved ones, and ask for charity (good deeds) whilst the souls of the virtuous believers are free to go wherever they wish and whenever they wish.
