(Fall River, MA) – Fall River Bishop George Coleman is refusing to extend a Lenten tradition to women. During Holy Thursday services, the feet of men are washed, a rite that Boston Archbishop Sean O’Malley opened to women this year. O’Malley was criticized last year for not changing with the times. But, Coleman refused to follow suit during services in Fall River last night. A spokesman for Coleman says the bishop interprets the liturgy in a different way.

I can see why some shop around for a Church. At least at McDonald’s one knows what they are getting anywhere in the country.One never knows what one is getting these days in Church.

I can’t understand why priests and bishops would not want to follow the rubrics. Why is it so hard to submit to rubrics when they are willing to submit to chastity and (sometimes) poverty?
