I’ve actually heard some good reasons against priestly celibacy in certain situations, but I agree that the overwhelming norm should be for celibate priests.

Sorry as a Byzantine (Ruthenian) Catholic I can not add my support to this.

Now if it explicitly spelled out that this was for the Latin Catholic Church only and that the group supported the married clergy in the Eastern Catholic Churches then I would consider added my support.

I cannot support this either. The early Church didn’t require celibacy of priests, and I’m hoping that the current requirements will change to allow the priest the *option *of marrying. If only priests had the option to marry, I’m sure we would see a huge surge in vocations and the current priest shortage would end.

This will never happen. The Church has never allowed those who are ordained to get married.

The issue with a married priesthood is that the Church ordains men who are already married.

Once ordained they can not marry. If a married priest’s wife passes away then he becomes celibate.

It also would not fix the (so called) priest shortage as all the denominations that allow for married ministers, even those who allow them to marry after their “ordination” are hurting just as much as Catholics are.
