Ever since several of my facebook friends have changed their profile pictures to the red and pink equality images, I have been trying to figure out a tasteful way to show my support in keeping marriage between a man and a woman. If you support this side, please change your profile picture to a photo on your wedding day if you are married.

God Bless and have a wonderful Easter!

Ugh… Really not up for a Facebook fight right before Easter. Sorry.

I won’t be back on FB until after Easter. Wow, I haven’t really missed it. 🙂

I dread getting back and seeing all the garbage, though.

I use facebook mostly as a way to advertise my coupon blog but I completely understand. 🙂

Yeah, I think that’s a bad idea and not likely to take off because, um, gay marriage supporters get married and have weddings too. And of course they post their pics on Facebook. And then you have the anti gay marriage people who wouldn’t have photos to post because they aren’t married.

Frankly I think trying to politicize your wedding photos is stupid, tacky, and not likely to work.

Gabriel, I like that image too. Haven’t seen that one yet. Blue eyed lady thank you for your opinion.

Another reason why I cancelled my Facebook account…I can do without all the drama

No less stupid and tacky than forcing your views by showing them no matter where someone looks on Youtube. Honestly, I think whoever chose red for the equality color was a blithering idiot, because that color just gets people wound up and uptight anyway.

🤷

:amen:

That pink equals sign was the last straw, don’t ask me why, it just was. Deleted my FB yesterday. I have gone through so much debate in my mind over being on Facebook at all. Even in the 3 years or so I’ve had it the fun of connecting with people, sharing interests, and forwarding funny cat pictures has become increasingly overshadowed by the negative aspects.

On the one hand, it’s become more and more obvious that on Facebook there’s a double standard. It’s perfectly okay for the “PC” crowd to say anything they want, but let a traditional values person like myself pipe up and the flame wars begin. :banghead:

And my frustration is also for a segment of those who claim to be Christian but don’t know when to shut up about the 2nd Amendment and guns. The issue of guns is a complex one and I don’t claim to have all the answers to it. But one thing that just makes me want to yak up a hairball is when there is a gun-related tragedy such as the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting, and instead of showing respect and compassion and giving people time to heal and praying, people are all “that’s why we need to arm teachers blah blah blah” - I mean, that is in poor taste to say the least.

I don’t fit into Democrat or Republican, liberal or conservative as commonly defined in the US and possibly elsewhere, because I look at each individual issue on its own merits (or lack thereof) and my litmus test is CATHOLIC MORAL TEACHING. No more, no less.

Back in the day, one could have a bunch of friends who hold widely varying beliefs and at least be civil with each other. It’s even getting hard to do that IRL these days. On Facebook it’s darn near impossible. 😦

I meant Facebook, not Youtube.

I have a Vatican flag as my profile pic. I like using the Vatican flag because it isn’t directly confrontational, but it shows that my beliefs align with the Church.

I would avoid Facebook now, but I want to keep up with CatholicMemes, Catholicculture.org, and CatholicVote 🙂

The symbol of Godislove with the cross was actually posted first by CatholicMemes…they posted several other symbols as well. I suggest checking them out; so far, I have found them to be very funny and very orthodox 👍

Update: I just logged on to see an high school classmate post “People who do not support gay marriage are bigots. Period.” I defriended him. :(

Very, very, very true. It seems like many of my facebook friends are attempting to be “cool” by changing their profile pics to the equal sign.

Hi! How are you? My husband fights for his right to protect his family however he chooses. We are Catholic to the core. Please see the CCC 2263-2265. My irritation is the people on facebook who think that Christianity requires gun control 🤷 The Church allows Catholics to figure out a lot of this for themselves (like we can for feeding the poor), but self defense remains a vital right. I do not care to argue with you about whether we can have assault rifles, etc, but please don’t accuse those who fight for the second amendment of “claiming to be Christian.”

My husband and I were talking about the “change your profile pic and support ‘x’ cause!” that circulates on Facebook from time to time. He thinks the whole thing is silly. It takes all of 30 seconds to change a profile pic and then you can pat yourself on the back and call yourself a good person because you helped support and advance a cause. Nevermind the fact you didn’t do anything at all for that cause one way or another.

That is not to say that one cannot promote causes on Facebook, but I find it more productive if one shares something that will stop and make others think or to talk to your friends who express other views one by one. One of my Christian friends one time posted that she thought it was wonderful that her liberal friends wanted to end discrimination, but if they were going to turn around and treat Christians the exact way they were trying to stop others from being treated, then they were doing something wrong. It caused a lot of those friends to actually talk to her about some of the things they had been posting.

However, the more time spent off Facebook promoting or assisting a cause, in this case traditional marriage, the more likely to see actual change and understanding of the issues.

No, I wouldn’t argue with you about that anyway, because I don’t want to argue about it at all! 😉 People get too het up.

My point was that people were exploiting the children’s deaths to make their point - and it was coming from both (or all) sides of the issue. It came across as insensitive to the memory of the children who died, to be talking about that so soon.

The paragraph I wrote, I see looking back at it, was not my most precisely worded and was open to being misconstrued. It was the insensitivity of timing of discussing the gun issue that I was addressing rather than the gun issue itself. But I got tangled up in my own wording. What happened for me, at the time of all that tragedy, was that I told people on my Facebook page that it was too soon to start debating guns, we should honor the victims and focus on that, and that I would be hiding any posts regarding guns, from any perspective, because I found it offensive to be discussing it soon while people were still grieving. It hurt me and made me feel disgusted. That’s all.

Your decision is your own and I apologize if it sounded like I was saying you weren’t a good Christian. Peace to you.

I am having a seriously hard time controlling my tongue and voicing my opinions.
I’m not staying silent because I’m afraid to speak, but rather know what brick wall I’ll be hammering with my head if I do.
But I get so steamed up! I just keep posting this and hope my snarky “friends” get the hint:

This is perfect. Thanks for sharing.

I also get frustrated by the postings on Facebook (and twitter), and have considered closing my account. However, I think when I share a photo or a thought of my convictions, I’m evangelizing. I know one day I’ll be outcast by my “friends”, and frankly, I’m looking forward to it!!!😃

I understand now. I apologize for any misinterpretation on my part. Peace to you as well 🙂

What a beautiful and true quote! I think I may post this on my Facebook 😉

I agree completely. I feel like I am definitely evangelizing with my Facebook, since I’ve seen people appreciating my “shares” and “likes” (and some of them are the most unexpected). Everyone’s Facebook feed could use more Jesus.

Although I am similarly concerned about being “outcast by my ‘friends’” and that I may be losing “friends” in the process because they can’t handle my belief in Jesus, I just can’t keep my joy to myself! :harp:
