It does not mean the end of the story, although this is a good step in the right direction. The Court merely ruled that the plaintiff’s claim that the country’s definition of marriage is “unconstitutional” did not hold water, on the grounds that the constitution neither restricts nor defines marriage, and that marriage is defined by the Family Code. It essentially just passed the buck to Congress saying this is a matter of legislation, not constitutional law.

Congress could still go nuts and pass an amendment to the Family Code redefining marriage, and on the same grounds the Court used in this ruling, it won’t be unconstitutional either.
