I’m not seeing where religious liberty is at stake in the two instances in the article. Neither claim they were fired for reasons violating Catholicism. One claims age discrimination and the other that she was fired on medical leave for breast cancer violating the ADA.

Anti-discrimination laws based on these categories don’t seem to violate any principle of the Catholic faith, so I’m not seeing the problem.

I get why absolute autonomy would be necessary when it comes to appointing clergy, but not when it comes to all church employees (obviously every employer would probably prefer absolute autonomy when making hiring decisions, but I don’t see anything morally wrong with anti-discrimination laws, provided they are based on just categories).

This has nothing to do with religious liberty—and frankly, the Church’s position in these cases doesn’t reflect well on us.
 
Yes, but even ministers should not be fired due to age or a cancer diagnosis. Claiming the right to do so is uncharitable at best.
