. . . anyone else think this is quietly ludicrous: Osama Bin Laden tells Americans to become Muslim in order to end the war.

THAT’s really the way to encourage deep religious thinking!🙂

I wish that only a few people in this world would just drop dead…he and his terrorists consist of all of these people. As horrible as that sounds, well, I want the war to END and not have a crazy fear of airplanes.

My aunt was in the pentagon when it happened. She was going to deliver papers to her boss that she finished, but on the way to her boss’s office, she had to go to the bathroom. WHile in the bathroom, she heard a big BOOM.

And we all know what that was. If she had gone to her boss’s office, she wouold have been killed along with him.

I think this is truly a miracle…who would’ve thought that peeing could save your life? Truly an act of God.

Convert, pay jizya with humiliation, or get killed. Can’t say it’s not democracy…come on you got 3 choices.

If I remember rightly, Muslims are required to request that infidels convert. If they don’t then they can be killed. This sounds like a warning.

Here is a link to the transcript:
I only skimmed the text, but it seems to wander through history, both remote and recent, economics, foreign policy, the current war, and religion. Kind of a rambling summary of the world’s problems, with the bad guys being the US and western civ, and the solution in conversion to Islam. All presented in just six short pages.

"Ummm, sure, Okaaaayy …

And at the same time, there is a thread complaining about the “rampant islamophobia on these boards”. I think I’m the only one who appreciates the irony:rolleyes:

yea and to someone like me who had Islamic fundies killing people to turn Lebanon into an Islamic land…those who receive the flogging are not like those counting them…

Well, not all muslims are exetremists. SOme are very good people. Every religion has its share of murderers and crazies, whether it be buddhist or catholic.

And that I don’t contest. However, the part of the Koran which preaches death to apostates is a little discouraging for evangelization though as long as the extremists are around, however.

This is pure fantasy. The Qur’an is clear on this point, there is no compulsion in religion. All classical scholars agree that accepting Islam is only valid if a person believes it to be the truth in the heart.

That’s not what the terrorists think.

Has anyone around here heard of the Onion? it’s a parody newspaper. They reviewed the “Bratz” movie- ugh- and concluded that that movie is an example of why the terrorists hate us. Also true.

Really… how many terrorists have you spoken to lately.

Or do you just form an opinion from what you see on Fox.
I haven’t spoken to any terrorists, but it seems that that is what Osama thinks.

I don’t even have cable TV, and my internet connection is too slow for moist videos.

If that were true then why do Islamic scholars who study the Bible have to blacken out the words “Holy Bible” on the Bible’s cover?

Blackening out those words so as not to be called an infidel by other Muslims is a strong act contrary to your argument.

Please explain.

Which Scholars? No scholar I know has even done this, and as far as I know there is no Islamic justification for doing so. I myself have many Bibles at home, as well as commentaries and illustrations, and they are on the same bookshelf as I keep my Qur’ans.

Even if you can produce a “scholar” doing so, one person’s action does not make it an Islamic ruling.

This is pure fantasy.
On whose part, Osama’s or Joe Kelly’s?
The Qur’an is clear on this point, there is no compulsion in religion.
Then explain this. Do Muslim nations forbid Christian Evangelization? Do Muslim nations destroy Churches and other religious icons? Isn’t it true that Christians worship in hiding in many Islamic countries? Does the Quran say that Muslims who convert to Christianity must be put to death?

If you answer any of those questions in the affirmative, why isn’t that compulsion? Or do you make a distinction between persecution and compulsion?
ll classical scholars agree that accepting Islam is only valid if a person believes it to be the truth in the heart.
Classical scholars aside. What do the Ayatollas and leaders at the Mosque level teach?

The fact is, the Qu’ran contradicts itself on that point. The result is that MUSLIMS get confused. Some Muslims, like Osama, believe in the killing of unbelievers if they don’t convert.

Others, don’t believe in compulsion in religion.

And others, believe in subterfuge. They insist that there is no compulsion in religion knowing full well that Muslim countries do not permit evangelization, freedom of speech or any other free exchange of ideas which are common in the West.

And I’m just describing the Muslims in free countries. Muslim nations systematically oppress, compulse and persecute all other religions. Even other sects of Islam.

Sincerely,

De Maria

Some do, and many don’t. I lived in Malaysia for a few years, and in Kuala Lumpur it’s easier to find a Church than it is a mosque.

What “some nations” do does not mean it is Islamically acceptable.
Does the Quran say that Muslims who convert to Christianity must be put to death?
No, the Qur’an does not say this. It does, however, say:
But if they dispute with you, say: I have submitted myself entirely to Allah and (so) every one who follows me; and say to those who have been given the Book and the unlearned people: Do you submit yourselves? So if they submit then indeed they follow the right way; and if they turn back, then upon you is only the delivery of the message and Allah sees the servants (Al-Imran v 20).
Say: O followers of the Book! come to an equitable proposition between us and you that we shall not serve any but Allah and (that) we shall not associate aught with Him, and (that) some of us shall not take others for lords besides Allah; but if they turn back, then say: Bear witness that we are Muslims.(al-Imran v 64)
… And whoever turns back upon his heels!s, he will by no means do harm to Allah in the least and Allah will reward the grateful. (Al-Imran 144)
And whatever is in the heavens and whatever is in the earth is Allah’s and certainly We enjoined those who were given the Book before you and (We enjoin) you too that you should be careful of (your duty to) Allah; and if you disbelieve, then surely whatever is in the heavens and whatever is in the earth is Allah’s and Allah is Self-sufficient, Praise-worthy. (al-nis’a 131)
And obey Allah and obey the messenger and be cautious; but if you turn back, then know that only a clear deliverance of the message is (incumbent) on Our messenger. (al-ma’idah 93)
And if their aversion is grievous unto thee, then, if thou canst, seek a way down into the earth or a ladder unto the sky that thou mayst bring unto them a portent (to convince them all)! - If Allah willed, He could have brought them all together to the guidance - So be not thou among the foolish ones. (Al-an’am 35)
Proofs have come unto you from your Lord, so whoso seeth, it is for his own good, and whoso is blind is blind to his own hurt. And I am not a keeper over you. (Al-an’am 104)
And whoever disbelieves, let not his disbelief grieve you; to Us is their return, then will We inform them of what they did surely Allah is the Knower of what is in the breasts. (Luqman 24)
Unto you your religion and unto me my religion (al-kafirun 7)
And many, many more I could quote… so exactly where is the “convert or die” message in these verses? Or are you simply content to quote over verses out of context to fool yourself into thinking it is the case.
Classical scholars aside. What do the Ayatollas and leaders at the Mosque level teach?
Saying “classical scholars aside” is sort of like saying, “Islam aside, …”. Again, if hatred is being preached in some mosques, then this does not justify anything Islamically. I don’t disagree with you that there are incorrect interpretations of Islam floating about… the question is, which one are you willing to believe? If you take the literal puritanical interpretation of the extremists, then what is the difference between you and them?
The fact is, the Qu’ran contradicts itself on that point. The result is that MUSLIMS get confused. Some Muslims, like Osama, believe in the killing of unbelievers if they don’t convert.
Really… Osama said that did he? You must be reading a different transcript than I have. In the one I have he mentions how Christians have been living side-by-side with Muslims for centuries.

That’s if you believe the video really is OBL, of course.
And I’m just describing the Muslims in free countries. Muslim nations systematically oppress, compulse and persecute all other religions. Even other sects of Islam.
Sincerely,
Nobody will deny here that there are problems in the Muslim world at the moment. However, think about it - God in the Qur’an clearly mentions that oppressors are doomed, so obviously, anyone oppressing a group of people is not following what God intends for us.

It’s not in those verses, obviously.

Part of the trouble with the Quran is how terribly ambiguous it can be. For example, the books are not arranged chronologically, and a verse states essentially that whatever Allah said last is what applies, so the question is which verse came last?

My source for this, however, is highly biased at best, so if you can refute it, please do. I hate being wrong, but I hate it more if no one tells me so.
