How does one surrender a child to God? Is it really as simple as making it an act of the will, essentially saying, “God, I give my children back to you, to use as you see fit”? Do I have to say this often? I want to surrender my children (teens at this point), I have the intention to surrender my children to God, I just need the method/means of doing this.

I’ve never heard of this. Is it something common that I’ve never encountered before?

You may surrender your will, but you cannot do so for your children. You can surrender your will so that they may be open to God’s will, but it’s still your will.

Only Protestants seem to be promoting this idea. Where did you across this?

Are you under the impression there are some magic words you have to say or something?

Yeah, I don’t mean to sound dismissive, but I’ve just never heard of this concept and the OP seems to assume it’s common knowledge.

It’s Protestant terminology. As far as I can tell, it boils down to You entrusting your children to God through prayer.

In a Catholic context, wouldn’t it make more sense to focus on the baby’s baptism?

I was listening to Sacred Heart radio earlier today, and there was a priest giving a talk to mothers. The priest said that when he told them of his vocation, that his mother just smiled, and was not surprised. Her comment was that she had “given him back” to God, like Mary did when Jesus was presented at the Temple.

It’s a daily means…prayer…
But don’t surrender them just yet - they are - teens 😛
Have a Mary statue…where they can see it…
So they can surrender themselves to Mary …as their mother.
Jesus / their older brother.
Items - that are reminders - of such
And angels too 😇
