The pivotal point in my personal and spiritual growth was realizing that, in fear, I clung to control. I have let go of this control at least a thousand times already. A thousand times of choosing to surrender fear and lies and trusting. Each time I peel back a layer, another deeper level of fear pops up.

Surrender is not a popular word in our modern culture. In fact surrendering my outer life seems like such a big deal that I resist. I cling to control almost like an idiot who thinks that she is clinging to a cliff with her finger nails, afraid to let go lest she fall to her death. Of course it is an irrational fear, rooted in my subconscious. Actually there is no cliff with a rock bottom. When I finally let go, it is a short drop into the loving arms of God. My fear of letting go is especially ridiculous in the light of God’s unconditional love, mercy and patience which He has proved to me many times, thousands of times.
God holds my true self. My true self hidden in God who is at my centre.I am safe here, at peace, flowing in and through the Spirit. This is where I choose to live. This is the last surrender of my false self and my fears. This is where I choose to live this year, in freedom and joy. I can choose to switch gears from a place of fear and control, to visit this secret place in the snap of a finger. However, I only function here for as long as a snap of a finger. This year I choose to stay here, surrendered to God, living in, with and through Him.

James 4:7

Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.

Galatians 2:20

I have been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me. And the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.

Luke 1:38

And Mary said, “Behold, I am the servant of the Lord; let it be to me according to your word.” And the angel departed from her.

I know what you mean about giving up control. It is very hard. Even for people like me who think that they have already given up control to the man in the family, head of household… I was so surprised that I still clung to control of my little part of the empire. How it hurt to try to give it up. But you are right, give it up and you find freedom. Try to be attached to nothing, but put God first… and here is the kicker…

hi,i like your thread- in reply as following the logic of the string:-very interesting… not to challenge what has already been well worded, here are some thougnts limited , to express human love onley-my own semantics:

so, unconditional love vs conditional love

unconditional love= surrender

conditional love= submit

or

unconditional+love=to conquer with love

conditional+love= to conquer with X???
sorry about the engineering formulas/

i would hope to practice something to add to my daily faith and prayer life, as qualification -for a synthesis-(i am too controling-and it risks friendship with others-that is extreme): i ask myself how do i approach God? i would challenge myself, the man in the mirror, that i would be so controlling as to build a embattlement tower to take heaven by storm-shame on me ; ); as per above -the to suppose the conditional love must conquer with something-in human terms, …X is still unknown-even my engineering is controling… Oh, i returned to edit…as a ‘key’ could be something to resolve a dilemma-so just say’n–(my wound of ignorance-unhappy extremes that gets me into trouble) i am adding responsibility and saying i am sorry to others and to God…

david patrick -interesting conditonal love means control to me because I will love you IF you act a certain way, tec.

control was ingrained in every cell of my body. Myspiritual director call it the worst sin against love, worse than hate. that control, not hate is the opposite of God’s love

hi,
thanks for your reply-agreeable, there is another string here on God and conditional love of God verses unconditional love of God-the string of arguements, among catholics, goes on and on and on…so i did not want to go there as a poster on the fourm–if i try hindsight-to review some things-i catch myself diving into too much of logic and topics-so i have to tell the Lord,'Hey take care of that logical string…" Even sitting at the computer risks my ‘control.’
"Oh! the human flaws that need divine love ;)well have a great and blessed day! 🙂
