A conservative Bible reader might not be as prone to say yes as a liberal non-reader, but think of it this way: Ask an evangelical who is politically conservative, has some college education, has an average level of income, is a biblical literalist, and does not read the Bible, and you’ll have only a 22 percent chance he or she will say reducing consumption is part of ethical living. Ask the same person, only now they read the Bible, and you’ll have a 44 percent chance they’ll say so. It’s still not a majority, but the swing is dramatic.

I try to read once in the morning and once in the evening (although sometimes I miss the evening readings - especially on busy days) and I am also fairly conservative.

I suppose I’ll have to read the survey now to find out how they link the Bible to liberalism. What in the Bible would inspire a liberal mindset? Not much, I dare say.

Let’s first get our definitions straight (the Leftists hijacked Liberalism back in the late 60’s):

1. Liberal = “That government is best which governs least.”
2. Leftist = “The Marxist Nanny State is Heaven on earth.”
3. Jesus was saturated with the Scriptures. He said, “Render unto Caesar what is his, and unto God what is His.” He also said, “Life does not consist in the abundance of possessions” and in coming to earth, He made himself “poor as dirt” (that’s what the Greek verb means). Do you ever even ONCE see Him advocating government extorting from the hardworking taxpayer to “give” to the poor?

How many Leftists do you know who give up their swanky SUV’s, their fancy computers, their posh pavilions (or penthouses), etc.? Uh, no, of course not: they choose to pick your and my pockets (aka taxes) and to (supposedly) pass it on to the poor (most of it, of course, passing instead into the pockets of bureaucrats), so that the recipients will then continue to vote for the Leftists.

All together now: “D-I-S-I-N-G-E-N-U-O-U-S”!

Edit: I forgot to mention a key point: the Bible specifically advocates against any sort of enforced collectivism (or gangism, for that matter—and Leftism is nothing more than governmentalized gangism on steroids) in Proverbs 1:

I’d like to see the actual survey questions as I am all too familiar with “results” being touted, yet when one sees the actual questions, they are biased or leave no viable option–sample question–Have you stopped beating your wife? Yes or No only.

Huh?? Gotta say, the very definition of a Bible literalist is someone who reads the Bible…and takes all of it literally!

Seems to me that conservatives are FAR more religious than liberals in general, and that “evangelical bible-readin’ literalists” are among the most conservative of the lot. Gaack, just makes me wonder what the motive of this particular survey’s proponents was. To get folks to stop reading the Bible? Yeah, right.

From my personal observation, about every liberal I know has little interest learning the Scriptures, and especially applying the yoke of Christ to their lives and in the voting booth.

“Reducing consumption” seems very ambiguous. I would agree with this statement and I am very conservative. “Reducing consumption” has nothing to do with being liberal or leftist. More liberals probably respond to this statement at first because liberals are more likely to attribute “reducing consumption” to be in line with their views on bringing down greenhouse gases and using less non-renewable resources. Like another poster said though, their idea of “reducing consumption” is incredibly narrow. Why don’t we do a poll and see whether conservatives or liberals are more likely to eat leftovers on a regular basis

In my mind its offensive that people believe consuming less is a trait of liberals haha.
