**Surviving the Storm
**
When we know a storm is coming, we prepare for the storm;
Flashlights, blankets, extra food, and water become the norm.
We figure out when and where we will take shelter from harm.
We want to be ready to act and survive when we hear the alarm.
Now consider the numerous storms we face on this world in life.
How should we ready ourselves and overcome the great strife?
What should we do now to prepare for the storms that arise,
Both those that we expect and those that come by surprise?
First and foremost, we need to develop a friendship with Jesus,
Who will love us most deeply, and gently benevolently lead us.
With Jesus as our light, even the greatest storm we can endure,
For in Jesus we can always trust to be with us – this is most sure.
We need to live a moral and upright life aiming for Heaven above,
Letting every thought and act we commit be done out of great love.
We need to avoid sins of commission, of omission, and of thought,
And loyally follow all the Ten Commandments as we were all taught.
We need to understand ourselves, our strengths and our limitations,
When to ask for help and when to provide our helpful ministrations.
We need to know what we can do well, can do poorly, and not at all,
So we can best act quickly when things around us become most critical.
Do all of these well, the storms will still come, expected and unexpected;
We will still be affected, sometimes just a little and sometimes real bad,
But we will persevere on our way to Heaven, comforted by our loving Jesus,
Who will always stick by us, walk with us, guide us, help us, and love us.
