Swearing gets things done

Sad to say, but true.

My grandmother was in nursing home and she was being neglected by the staff. My grandfather asked nicely for help. Nothing happened.
He was then pleasantly persistent. Nothing Happened.
He then was more aggressive. Nothing Happened.
Finally, he had to scream extremely vulgar 4 letter words at the staff and cause a big scene. Everything Happened, meds were delivered, therapy was given, etc…etc…

My point is this. He had to swear to get results, and as long as God’s Holy Name is not used in any profane way, how is using foul language a sin? Isn’t it more of a cultural acceptance and unacceptance?

People drill it in my head that I should never cuss becasue I’m Christian, but why? English wasn’t even around in the days of the early church!!!

Where in scripture is it a sin?

No really his raising his voice, he could have yelled without cursing, I do it all the time.

Also if you ask a couple of times nicely, calling medicare if they are paying for the care will normally get better long term results.

I agree. I don’t see why, as you put it, he “had” to scream extremely vulgar 4-letter words. No one “has” to use profanity. I can see that he may have needed to raise his voice or even yell, but the words said were completely his choice. As for why that’s a sin, I would say that it’s a verbal assault on another person. How does it demonstrate Christian love for one another to lash out at them in order to intimidate? How is treating someone with profound disrespect NOT a sin?? If this is done to a woman or a timid person, isn’t it reasonable for that person to feel threatened and fearful? Why would it be OK to do that?

I agree it is sad. However, it wasn’t stated who he was yelling at? Nursing assistants? Practical nurses? Registered nurses? My daughter and daughter-in-law both work at nursing homes and there is a whole chain of command thing. I would have gone to someone higher up. Head of nurses, and if no help, then whoever is over that person and on up. I would have for sure called her doctor as sounds like his/her orders were maybe not being followed? or needed changing.

The staff at the nursing home was understaffed and overworked in the first place. It was medicade run, or whatever you call it. If you have a loved one that isn’t getting the care they are needing, you do what is necessary.
They threw the first punch by not caring for their patients. My grandpaw was just defending his wife.
He has selflessly taken care of her following a major stroke for almost ten years now, when most would just have warehoused their loved one out of exacerbation. He tends to her most basic needs, and asks for Christs assistance every day.

The Nursing home was a battlefield. You should try going to one sometime and see how pathetic they are…I’ve been there. People have no dignity there…

You call it intimidation. The way I see it he was protecting his wife.

Think about it.

I agree he was protecting his wife but I hope and pray that he can stay there night after night. Because the staff in most nursing homes are underpaid this type of abuse is common and people who become squeeky wheels don’t always get the oil usually they encounter more bruises. I saw this many times in nursing homes. The private nursing homes run by the nuns are a little better but my sister who has worked in many witnessed far to many things with patients. It is very sad that we as Americans worry more about animals than we do our people. (I don’t mean so much us here in the forum but our outside world.)

Think about it.

I’m not saying that he didn’t have good reason to be upset—it sounds like he did. That’s not being debated, is it? Did I say he shouldn’t have raised his voice or yelled? No, but what I did say that using profanity is a choice----he didn’t “have” to use, as you yourself put it, “extremely vulgar 4 letter words”. That he did so indicates a lack of self-control. It would be very natural to be frightened or intimidated by someone who shows a lack of self-control, especially if that person is screaming. I can understand yelling if necessary, but using vulgarities is NEVER necessary.

Ephesians 5 would be a good place to start. What kind of a Christian is one who behaves like the world?. We are to be examples of Christ walking this earth.
