"...sweetness and bitterness" (the same?)

Dear Brothers and Sisters,

St Faustina sometimes surprises me with an entry in her “Diary” that at first doesn’t seem realistic and I ask myself: “Is this saint speaking in a poetic way, or a way that I’m not able to grasp in my own day to day experience?” Then, as I continue to ponder her words more, I begin to understand that she is being very realistic because her words describe truly her experience of God’s Grace transforming her more and more. Here is an example:

1245 - My Jesus, delight of my heart, when my soul is filled with Your divinity, I accept sweetness and bitterness with the same equanimity. One and the other will pass away. All that I keep in my soul is the love of God. For this I strive; all else is secondary.

Two other holy souls came to mind as I was typing this, so let me share a bit more “wisdom from the saints”:

St. Teresa of Avila wrote: “Let nothing disturb you, let nothing frighten you. Everything passes. God alone suffices.”

Fr. Olier, Founder of the Sulpician Order, wrote: "O Jesus, living in Mary, come and live in your servants, in the spirit of holiness, in the fullness of your power, in the perfection of your ways, in the truth of your virtues, in the communion of your mysteries. Rule over every adverse power, in your Spirit, for the glory of the Father. Amen.

Thank You, Lord, for the marvelous work you do in souls who open themselves to Your Love! Help us to continue striving as they did to be holy as You are Holy.

Yes I think St Faustina was fully surrendered to the Divine Will. Whether He willed her to experience consolation or desolation, she accepted it.

Thanks for your reply. Yes, and notice she says, at the very end of her Diary entry:
“All that I keep in my soul is the love of God. For this I strive; all else is secondary.”

It is very important for us, by God’s Grace, to continue “striving”, because the evil one will continue prowling around seeking whom he may devour. We will need God’s grace to resist temptations and to strive in the midst of trials to keep God’s Will first, and all else secondary.

Jesus told us to seek first the Kingdom of God and all the rest will be given to us.(cf Mt. 6) The Kingdom is within us from Baptism. Come Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of Your faithful.
