I have also noticed a disturbing trend from Muslim clerics - whenever a disaster or an outbreak occurs in a non-Muslim land, it is thought as Allah’s way of punishing the infidel.
The Christian televangelists (and other Christians!) do the same thing. Whenever something happens, they blame it on those who don’t follow Christ’s teaching.

In my unscientifically based opinion, the funny thing about all these new viruses that they have recently ‘discovered’, is the fact that most have probably existed for a long time – without hurting anyone (and by ‘anyone’, i mean a significant portion of the population). All this media hype is just to get young, naive mothers running to their clinic for the newest, and ‘greatest’ vaccine that the pharmacutical companies are pushing.

Also, it’s another way to limit incoming flights into the United States for whatever reason they want to limit flights.

Plus, it sells ad space on the 24-hour ‘news’ networks. Don’t get your news spoon-fed to you, research it for yourself! That’s why God gave us minds, so we can filter out garbage like this!

I think it’s pretty childish.

p.s., this is my first post since years in hiatus. How’s everyone!? 🙂

I read a news article about 2 or 3 days back about the muslims in the middle east blaming israel regarding the flu… I’ll try to dig it up!
That must be some feat. Don’t Jews also avoid pork? 😉

Ah, thinking out loud. I am glad to be a Catholic and not to worry and counting the days when the world may end. 👍

I am glad that we are not subjected ot any whim and fancy of men about when God’s judgment happens and will come, by the things we see everyday on this earth.

Let Muslims, and JWs and Protestants 😉 do all the worrying and us Catholics just go about our everyday business in faithfulness to the living God.
Be not afraid. 👍

Perhaps if it were avian flu instead of swine flu he wouldn’t be making such a claim. Preachers should stick to preaching and doctors to doctoring. Muslims today seem to have far too many half-doctor half-preacher types who unknowingly perpetuate myths such as this.

The Qur’an tells Muslims to abstain from eating certain things for Wisdom that is from God.

I’m curious. Is there a reason given for not eating it? Or is the rule not explained further?

I think people shouldn’t be eating pork first of all, but the sermon seems to be some arrogant wishful thinking combined with a very poor understanding of the swine flu virus in the first place.

And it is Egypt, incidentally, which was considering (not sure if they decided to do it or not) slaughtering 350,000 pigs. Given the means by which the virus is spreading, such an act wouldn’t do anything whatsoever to stop the spread or protect Egyptians from it.

I will add, as well, that at my mosque there was something mentioned about swine flu on Friday–the same precautions being aired on almost every other media about washing hands and looking out for symptoms.

As Dale_M also mentioned before me, it is common for many people, regardless of religion, to make claims when observing a natural disaster that it is a demonstration of punishment from God. Yet anyone with knowledge, Muslim or otherwise, would say, rather, that it is not our place to judge.

Are you one of those who thinks that vaccines are useless or even dangerous?

My whole family gets the flu vaccine every year because of underlying health problems. I’m grateful to those create the vaccines and to the doctors who inform their patients.

The nay-sayers have blamed childhood vaccines for autism for years. A new study has shown, yet again, that that assumption is wrong.

I suppose there are some who think we should never have developed a vaccine for small pox, too.

And medicine in general. There are so many people who denounce traditional Western medicine and, instead, take up “natural” cures.

I have a disease that is (or can be) progressive. I take the prescribed meds. Most of the people I know with the same disease refuse to take the medicine. The reason? They don’t trust “the man”. Instead they look to herbs, body cleansing, quack cures, and other such nonsense.

They are all living with disabilities now, but feel good that they aren’t following “the man” and taking those evil medicines. I, otoh, have no disability.

Studies show that those who take the meds have a better outcome than those who don’t. It slows the progression and puts off disability onset. Putting off disability onset also means that ultimately you live a better life, since those on the meds tend to never get as bad as those who aren’t on the meds.

Still, they say that the meds do nothing. That “they” are only trying to make money on us. The list of paranoid reasons goes on.

They refuse to accept the evidence of the studies and the evidence in front of their eyes–irl!

That got a little long. Just want to caution against telling people that vaccines (and meds) are the work of an evil empire. Too many people are hurt when believing that story.

Diet aids and the like are a different story. They are not classified as drugs and aren’t regulated as such (they don’t fall under the same testing requirements, labeling rules, and so can claim anything they want about them.) but so many people point to the deaths due to that junk and say, “See. I told you Western medicine is run by an evil money-hungry empire!”

And yet, these are the things that the same people jump for without thinking, without the skeptisism that they have about legitimate drugs. They believe the lies the makers of that stuff tell them, but refuse to get a flu shot.

I wonder how they would explain the Tsunami in Indonesia?

I second that .

Some imams are just a disgrace. There was a mad cow disease and a bird flue disease and now a pig flue disease.

Imams are not like priests in the catholic church who have to be approved by the church . sadly any body can go on the pulpit , muslims have no control on who would be an imam. Many imams have no education except a religious one, that makes them so narrow minded .

last friday i heared a horrible sermon that i almost fell asleep out of boredom. It was a backup imam for the main imam who was sick. what can one do , we are not totally free to appoint them as the government is the one that does .

The Egyptian government is acting the fool. They wanted long ago to transfer the pig farms outside of cairo poor suburbs and they used this news to hasten the process. The victim was the perception that Egyptian muslims acted on pigs when they didnt act on birds or cows. But this is not true. It is just the government used this oppertunity to
eleminate all pig farms within the city. The ministry of healt knows ver well that this is not the soloution but they are using peoples ignorance to forward their agenda.

The pigs in Egypt are used as a recycling machine for garbage. Most of the farms are run by christians who later on slaughter them fr the use of the christian comunity. Infact getting rid of pigs will deprive cairo of a huge recycling machine.

Are you able to quote from one of their sermons, or give a youtube reference to your assertion?

They probably say it was from God, but one thing that is different about the evangelists is that they will help others whether they be Hindu, buddhist, Muslim, Christian, etc. I don’t see that sort of behavior from Muslims, not even the oil rich ones. They finally gave to the tsunami a few years back after the world scrutinized their penny pinching behavior towards their fellow Muslim majority countries that were hard hit by the tsunami. Of course, these same oil rich nations give billions to push their wahabbi clerics into their wahabbi funded mosques and madrassas.

And what are Muslim charities all about? … oh! I can answer that!!! supporting Jihadists. Our government shut down quite a number of them after 9/11.

I wonder how they would explain the Tsunami in Indonesia?
I wrote in the previous note that they said it is the will of Allah. Well, after much scrutiny from the world they finally coughed up about $5million. Most of the money came from the ‘evil Satan nations’, the Judeo-Christian West that is being islamicized. When we are fully islamicized - the world better realize that they won’t get the free handouts anymore. And in about a century we will be as stupid and backward as the rest of the ME. One cannot keep up science and discoveries when one is bow beaten and have to study the Quran for hours of a day. The mind becomes numb and useless.

No, I don’t have one handy, and I’m not going to spend time looking for one. They were major news stories after Katrina and 9/11. You couldn’t have missed them.

Then I will take your post as just trying to defend Islam by tu quoque, and even at that - without any proof.

As for ‘major’ news stories after Katrina and 9/11 - I don’t recall any evangelist saying such things. I do recall a strong gathering of Americans to help out our fellow human beings. After Katrina, they took people in, the money poured in to help, and even dogs and other animals were rescued. Our men helped even when shot at by some in Katrina, and even when their lives were lost in 9/11. After 9/11, the rallying of the people was tremendous.

I do recall the dancing and celebration of Muslims worldwide over the attack on us on 9/11 though. They were even caught on tape in our own country. And then later their denial of doing such a thing even though they were caught on tape, and they blamed the Jews for not only doing the deed, but celebrating it.

I did a websearch and there is a list of any one of these videos you can watch to see Muslims celebrating the deaths of so many on 9/11.

So sad, especially when they can have very wide following among Muslims. So sad, because the followers who confirm to such teaching and any other teaching or interpretation of the Quran, would, as we can see, follow their instruction to the letter, sometimes to such disastrous consequence.

How is that there is no protection in Islam that this should not happen? The least that Islam can do is to disassociate itself with heretic teaching and ideology. If Muslims themselves, I mean the majority of them, cannot discern which is right or wrong, isn’t this not amount t to confusion? When there are so many interpretations of the Quran and no one to say which is right or wrong.

That’s a bit strong. Random imam doesn’t understand the transmission of swine flu and Islam is filled with heretic ideology?

The Muslim can discern which is right and wrong. Friday khutbahs aren’t the means for real scholarly dissemination–they’re for the masses. Seems you’re making a pretty big leap here.

The amazing thing about Islam is that the majority will never agree on an error.

I was obviously trying to comment on Imams making erroneous teachings. There is no control on what’s right or wrong especially when it comes to interpretation.

The reality is of course Imams do have followers of their interpretations. I actually don’t care much about the swine flu, apparently this kind of teaching will not cause any harm to anybody unless if you count the closure of pig farms and that may result in monetary losses.

Again, certain Imams do have ardent followers who will follow their teaching to the letter. And that can be a cause for concern especially if it involves harms to others. And you do not have any control over Imams, do you? I mean that was what the poster told us.

I don’t find this aspect of Islam quite amazing, to tell you the truth.

You wrote a mouthful here. Very few even admit to errors within Islam.

The reason why it isn’t such a far leap for anyone of us to go from the swine flu to errors in Islam is due to the jump by the clerics/Muslims to take the swine flu and blame it on the Jews and/or Christians.

tit for tat, I suppose.

I read in a book about Swine flu virus. I think its related to Muslims.

Is that you meddo !!!, I can’t believe my eyes…

Its good that your are admitting such thing, that’s like many imams on this forum who are always telling fancy stories about Muhammed without authentic references.

:blessyou:

kalt, I never said I don’t agree with all vaccines. However, it is my opinion, and the opinion of many other qualified medical professionals, that vaccines actually tend to weaken our immune system. I haven’t had a flu shot in years, and I work in a hospital, and haven’t been sick yet.

Of course, for some people who do have weakened immune systems due to disease or some other factor, vaccines can be a lifesaver depending on the developer and the patient.

I’m not one that tends to believe that we should medicate for everything. We should give the body a chance to heal itself naturally, and in the long run this will build up our immunity.

Of course, herbs and vitamins should be taken at all times and in the right doses, and chemical medicine should be taken when there is cause. Not just to push the pharmacutecal agenda, however. That is my main point.

So, Please, in the future, try not to assume what people are saying and if you are unclear; then, ask for a clarification. 🙂

Then I will take your post as just trying to defend Islam by tu quoque, and even at that - without any proof.

Your argument makes no sense. I wasn’t defending Islam, just pointing out that there are Christians who are guilty of the same nonsense. This is not the same thing as standing up for Islam

Sometimes I’m honestly embarrassed by the nonsense from some of my fellow Catholics on this forum. God only works miracles for Catholics. Saying that Christians blamed immoral people for Katrina is the same as supporting Islam. Protestants are going to Hell. All of this rubbish, and more, posted by Catholics! :o/
