Over one quarter of all students stayed away from the Oakhill Catholic College in one day last week with flu-like symptoms, as school attendance plunges with the spread of H1N1. * The Daily Telegraph* said attendance numbers “are being savaged” around Sydney.
A Lower North Shore public school yesterday lost up to 40 percent of its students, while last Tuesday the Oakhill Catholic College lost about 400 students in one day, a quarter of its enrollment.
“I’ve been teaching for 40 years and I’ve never experienced what we have this year,” principal Brother Ken Ormerod was quoted saying. “These are phenomenal numbers I would never have expected.”
