HI,
I recently posted about me being freshly married.
Thanks a lot for all who prayed and gave suggestions, it really helped me seeing things in the right perspective.

Overall I notice I tend to worry a lot. If one thing is okay, I notice my mind switches to another ‘problem’. I am very used to control my life, have enough of everything but not feeling like living my vocation; now I feel in grace but out of control of some things…

I know I should relax more, abide in God’s love, pray, exercise. But there are times when I am at work, at a party etc. but feel overcome by these worries, distracting me from the issue at hand.
My wife helps a lot in this by the way - she understands me and certainly the last months before our marriage helped me understand myself more also.
And God ALWAYS has provided. So I also feel like I’m distrusting God, making me feel a bit worse.

It’s mostly this circle:
-Money (the -let me say like this- start of our marriage was not cheap: Wedding, traveling, immigration and I had to borrow money from my parents but still am below my balance; general spending will be okay though in the future)
-Job satisfaction (I am not totally in the right place now, feeling I am not using my talents like I could or want, and also on a salary lower than what people in my actual profession could make)
-Relationship (general insecurity, feeling that I don’t deserve this great woman and that it 'still can go wrong)

You know, I am looking for another job that is more challenging and pays more; and my wife is happy to come to my country - so I know it will be okay; I just feel like I am more fatalistic / worried in my heart than I should be.

Please help me to pray that these feelings go away, for more ability to relax in Gods goodness, and to enjoy love more. But also please pray for an actual improvement in job and money.

Any practical advice is welcome, but I’m already talking with priests and friends for guidance. But maybe someone can shed a different light on this.

Thanks a lot!

Hi Samwise1,

Your situation sounds familiar to me, as I am a worrier too! I know the feeling of having one worry relieved only to move onto the next one, as if they are waiting in a queue for attention.

Recently I read an article that shed some light on my situation, called You Can Heal a Worry Addiction. You can read it here: huffingtonpost.com/margaret-paul-phd/you-can-heal-a-worry-addi_b_6211218.html

My favorite insights from the article were, “She was unconsciously addicted to the sense of control that worry gave her . . . worriers believe that worry will stop bad things from happening.”

I believe, as you said, that it’s really a matter of trusting God and giving up on trying to control everything. Sometimes I find that instead of praying for good outcomes to all of the things I’m worried about, it’s better to just pray, “God, I trust you!” and move on. 🙂

Our Father, Who art in heaven,
Hallowed be Thy Name.
Thy Kingdom come.
Thy Will be done, on earth as it is in Heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those who trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil.

Amen.

P.S. A alt of us on CAF are worriers! You are in good company my friend… and yes, God always does provide.

Read:
2 Corinthians 12:9 (RSVCE):
but he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” I will all the more gladly boast of my weaknesses, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.

Lord, please grant many graces to Samwise1, that germinate into virtues of faith, hope, love, joy, and much temperance. Give this soul a zeal to place his undivided trust into your care, following your ways in all things. As Padre Pio advised, pray, hope, and don’t worry. May this maxim permeate Samwise1’s life, helping him in decision making and with confidence. Hear this soul’s petitions, that he be aware of your presence and be emboldened to walk as a radiant child of light, reflecting your love to the world by example. Send angels to protect this married couple always and to guard them from all temptations. Have mercy, Lord. Our Lady, angels, and saints, pray with us. Amen.

Praying to the Holy Spirit to give you guidance, direction, strength, fortitude & wisdom in your time of need.

There are some good suggestions here concerning stopping the worries. And you seem to be aware that your worrying is a dark cloud over your happiness. The “what if’s” are often a symptom of a drop in serotonin levels, or anxiety, that may run in your family. There are some natural nutritional supplements that might help you in this tendency: 5 HTP or Tryptophane. You can take them for a while until the symptoms disappear and then keep them around in case you have a rough patch again.

The trouble with the constant worrying is that, over time, we begin to get comfortable with our role as the worrier, whether it’s as a nurturer or provider or just a child always speculating on the possibilities: “what if our house collapsed?” " what if it rains so hard it floods? ". The chemical imbalance starts it but the demons take over and make it really miserable.

Bring on the angels!

Because for every negative or scary “what if” there is a positive and hopeful one: “what if the house still stands after 150 years? What if the rain stops by day and the garden gets green? What if I keep my job or get a better one? What if life is tough but I raise a good family anyway?”

Now here,s a thing how much would you acheive if you didn,t worry.Trust in Him and you will receive

Saint Michael, the archangel, defend us in battle, be our defense against the wickedness and snares of the devil, may God rebuke him, we humbly pray. And do you, O’ Prince of the Heavenly host, by the power of God thrust into Hell Satan and all the other evil spirits who prowl about the world for the ruin of souls.

Amen.

Our Father who art in Heaven, hallowed be thy name.

Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on Earth as it is in Heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread.

Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee.

Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb Jesus.

Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death.

Praying for you to handle your anxiety in constructive ways…

Most Sacred Heart of Jesus, I implore, that I may love Thee more and more.

Most Sacred Heart of Jesus, have mercy on us!

Most Sacred Heart of Jesus, I trust in Thee!

Most Sacred Heart of Jesus, Thy kingdom come!

Most Sacred Heart of Jesus, I believe in Thy love for me!

May the Heart of Jesus in the Most Blessed Sacrament be praised, adored and loved with grateful affection, at every moment, in all the tabernacles of the world, even to the End of Time! Amen.

Gracious and merciful Father, please come to his assistance.

Our Father, who art in Heaven, hallowed be thy name.
Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on Earth as it is in Heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread,

As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end.
Amen.

Remember,
O most gracious Virgin Mary,
that never was it known that any one who fled to thy protection,
implored thy help or sought thy intercession,
was left unaided.
Inspired with this confidence,
I fly unto thee,
O Virgin of virgins my Mother;
to thee do I come,
before thee I stand,
sinful and sorrowful;
O Mother of thy Word Incarnate,
despise not my petitions,
but in thy clemency hear and answer me.
Amen

Hail Mary, full of grace,
The Lord is with Thee;
Blessed art thou among women,
And blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.
Holy Mary, Mother of God,
Pray for us sinners,
Now and at the hour of our death. Amen.

Our Father,
who art in heaven,
hallowed be thy name;
thy kingdom come;
thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread;
and forgive us our trespasses
as we forgive those who trespass against us;
and lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil. Amen.

Thanks a lot you all!
Knowing that I am not the only one, and seeing people pray, really means a lot! All your comments helped me give this feeling a place and relate to it better. Still not cured, but I know that God is already sending two helps my way: First of all my wife (meaning having a woman beside me who is my channel to God and to relaxation - she knows how to take away my anxiety), and secondly, summer is breaking through (meaning more vitamins, fresh air and outside evenings) 🙂

Right now my wife is on her way to me… That’s great, I’m so happy! 😃 I actually can’t wait to drive to the airport. I feel so blessed!

Would you please continue to pray for:
-A safe trip for her, also in the immigration checks;
-Gods providence over our money, especially in the first months here when things need to be arranged and we could use some divine help there;
-For my job search, that it may enable me to be more peaceful and relaxed;
-A smooth welcome for my wife here in my town, that she may feel happy in this place and that I may be a good man for her.

Thanks again! I will pray that God will reward your prayers and suggestions!
