The crozier is pretty straightforward i.e. symbol of the Bishop’s authority as shepherd of the flock.
But what about the mitre?
This is a Saint’s Day fancy dress related request so I need something simple for my little ‘bishop’ to say. A one-liner would be great.
I have checked out the Catholic Encyclopedia and a couple of other sources and the only reference I have found is to the two peaks symbolising the Old and New Testaments and the strings (lappets?) the spirirt and the letter. That doesn’t really answer what the sybolism of the mitre as a whole is.
Christopher.
