I am grateful to all who contribute to the discussion about the special symbolism of the number 4.

Perhaps it is of interest to consider 5 now. There does not seem very much significance attached to it…

1 Our Lord had 5 wounds
1 The basic unit of the rosary is 5 mysteries/decades
3 There are 5 Books of Moses (Pentateuch/Torah)
4 1/30 of the number of Psalms is 5
5 We have 5 senses
6 The miracle of 5 loaves
7 David picked up 5 stones

Most of these do not seem significant.

I would be grateful for any other examples of 5 and also of the symbolic use and meaning of 5.

Thanks!

and 5 fingers on each hand to bring together in prayer.

and 5 toes on each foot to take each step with Jesus toward Heaven.

God Bless Us All,

Paul

Number 5 – grace, God’s goodness

5 names of Christ: Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, everlasting Father, Prince of Peace (Isa 9.6).

5 ministries whereby God’s grace is given to the world: Apostles, Prophets, Evangelists, Pastors and Teachers (Eph 4.11).

Jesus, out of compassion and grace fed 5,000 with 5 loaves (Jn 6.1-10).

i am new to this thread but i am starting a motorcycle ministry and would like to know more about the symbolism of the number 1-12 if anyone can help! Thanks peace!

The Pentateuch means five books, and it is referred to by the Jews as the Torah or the Law. It consists of Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers and Deuteronomy.

There are only five platonic solids
A Platonic Solid is a 3D shape where:
• each face is the same regular polygon
• the same number of polygons meet at each vertex (corner) :
1 Tetrahedron 4 faces
2 Cube 6 faces
3 Octahedron 8 faces
4 Dodecahedron 12 faces
5 Icosahedron 20 faces

Five pointed star.

Five classical elements: water, earth, air, fire, and ether.

Five is the only prime number to end in the digit 5, because all other numbers written with a 5 in the ones-place under the decimal system are multiples of five.

Dark aspect: satanists also use 5 in their upside down penatgram with goat face in it (Sigil of Baphomet).

I used to listen to a guy on the radio who talked about the symbolism of numbers in the Bible, all the time.

5 comes up as referring, depending on the context, as referring to salvation or condemnation.

This is most obvious in the case of the virgins who were waiting for the bridegroom, and five of them were prepared with oil for their lamps and five were not, and were not admitted to the banquet (or whatever).

There are more examples, but I can’t remember them at this time. Sometimes five is just five, just like sometimes a sword is just a sword (in scripture).

In sensus plenior 5 is the number of man in the flesh. 10 is the number of Christ as the dual-natured man.

The number five is usually associated with speaking truth and knowing truth. It is essential to knowing truth. In order to go further to knowing you must first look at where you want to say truth and did not. It is about forgiving yourself. It is about communitcating the message of God. The main focus of Jesus was first forgiving yourself, then going on to forgive everyone. We are forgiven every sunday in mass. We call to mind our sins we are relieved of them and then we go forth to speed peace. Then we must forgive and 6 comes in. The main fault of man is not forgiving others nomatter what. If we can do that then we become like Christ. Then we get to number 7 to reach God. We hold no grudges there is nothing left but living Gods word because everything else has been reconciled.

I concur with much of what has already been written on this thread. I will elaborate a little further on some of the aspects that have already been discussed. As CHRISTINE77 pointed out, there are five books of the Torah, or the Jewish Law. Thus, five relates to the law. But more specifically, five is the Hierarch, or the one who has authority over the law (and by extension, has the power to forgive sins, relating to what Mary Jessica mentioned in her post).

To examine this, let us read chapter five of the Book of John.
[1] After this there was a feast of the Jews; and Jesus went up to Jerusalem.
[2] Now there is at Jerusalem by the sheep [market] a pool, which is called in the Hebrew tongue Bethesda, having five porches.
Bethesda in Hebrew is בית חסדא, “House of Mercy,” or “House of Grace.”

Note that the word חסדא starts with ח, which is the fifth letter of the Hebrew alphabet. Also remember that each letter in Hebrew corresponds to a number. So when we add the letters of the word חסדא, we get (5 + 10 + 4 + 1 = 25 = 5 x 5).

Furthermore, what is the sheep? A sheep is a ram. The ram is Aries, or Mars. And Mars is the fifth planet in the Greek cosmology (see picture).

[3] In these lay a great multitude of impotent folk, of blind, halt, withered, waiting for the moving of the water. (Those who are afflicted by the pronouncements of the law need the movement of the water in order to be made whole.)
[4] [For an angel went down at a certain season into the pool, and troubled the water: whosoever then first after the troubling of the water stepped in was made whole of whatsoever disease he had.]
[5] And a certain man was there, which had an infirmity thirty and eight years.
[6] When Jesus saw him lie, and knew that he had been now a long time in that case, he saith unto him, Wilt thou be made whole?
[7] The impotent man answered him, Sir, I have no man, when the water is troubled, to put me into the pool: but while I am coming, another steppeth down before me.
[8] Jesus saith unto him, Rise, take up thy bed, and walk.
[9] And immediately the man was made whole, and took up his bed, and walked: and on the same day was the sabbath.
[10] The Jews therefore said unto him that was cured, It is the sabbath day: it is not lawful for thee to carry thy bed.
[11] He answered them, He that made me whole, the same said unto me, Take up thy bed, and walk.
[12] Then asked they him, What man is that which said unto thee, Take up thy bed, and walk?
[13] And he that was healed wist not who it was: for Jesus had conveyed himself away, a multitude being in that place.
[14] Afterward Jesus findeth him in the temple, and said unto him, Behold, thou art made whole: sin no more, lest a worse thing come unto thee.
The law punishes us according to our sins.

“Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap. For he that soweth to his flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption; but he that soweth to the Spirit shall of the Spirit reap life everlasting.” – Galatians 6:7-8
[15] The man departed, and told the Jews that it was Jesus, which had made him whole.
[16] And therefore did the Jews persecute Jesus, and sought to slay him, because he had done these things on the sabbath day.
[17] But Jesus answered them, My Father worketh hitherto, and I work.
[18] Therefore the Jews sought the more to kill him, because he not only had broken the sabbath, but said also that God was his Father, making himself equal with God.
[19] Then answered Jesus and said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, The Son can do nothing of himself, but what he seeth the Father do: for what things soever he doeth, these also doeth the Son likewise.
[20] For the Father loveth the Son, and sheweth him all things that himself doeth: and he will shew him greater works than these, that ye may marvel.
[21] For as the Father raiseth up the dead, and quickeneth them; even so the Son quickeneth whom he will.
[22] For the Father judgeth no man, but hath committed all judgment unto the Son:
Christ has the authority to forgive sins
[23] That all men should honour the Son, even as they honour the Father. He that honoureth not the Son honoureth not the Father which hath sent him.
[24] Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life.
The word for “believeth” in Greek is πιστεύων, which means “has faith”, from the root πίστιν, meaning “faith.” Very deep…
[25] Verily, verily, I say unto you, The hour is coming, and now is, when the dead shall hear the voice of the Son of God: and they that hear shall live.
[26] For as the Father hath life in himself; so hath he given to the Son to have life in himself;
[27] And hath given him authority to execute judgment also, because he is the Son of man.
[28] Marvel not at this: for the hour is coming, in the which all that are in the graves shall hear his voice,
[29] And shall come forth; they that have done good, unto the resurrection of life; and they that have done evil, unto the resurrection of damnation.
“And many of them that sleep in the dust of the earth shall awake, some to everlasting life, and some to shame and everlasting contempt.” – Daniel 12:2

Note also that 12:2 is 1+2+2 = 5. Very interesting…

(continued below…)

[30] I can of mine own self do nothing: as I hear, I judge: and my judgment is just; because I seek not mine own will, but the will of the Father which hath sent me.
[31] If I bear witness of myself, my witness is not true.
[32] There is another that beareth witness of me; and I know that the witness which he witnesseth of me is true.
[33] Ye sent unto John, and he bare witness unto the truth.
[34] But I receive not testimony from man: but these things I say, that ye might be saved.
[35] He was a burning and a shining light: and ye were willing for a season to rejoice in his light.
[36] But I have greater witness than that of John: for the works which the Father hath given me to finish, the same works that I do, bear witness of me, that the Father hath sent me.
[37] And the Father himself, which hath sent me, hath borne witness of me. Ye have neither heard his voice at any time, nor seen his shape.
[38] And ye have not his word abiding in you: for whom he hath sent, him ye believe not.
Remember “That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.” (Romans 10:9).

“But those things which proceed out of the mouth come forth from the heart.” – Matthew 15:18

Christ, the Son, is the Word of God. But how can we confess him with our mouth if that Word is not abiding within us?
[39] Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of me.
[40] And ye will not come to me, that ye might have life.
[41] I receive not honour from men.
[42] But I know you, that ye have not the love of God in you.
[43] I am come in my Father’s name, and ye receive me not: if another shall come in his own name, him ye will receive.
[44] How can ye believe, which receive honour one of another, and seek not the honour that cometh from God only?
[45] Do not think that I will accuse you to the Father: there is one that accuseth you, even Moses, in whom ye trust.
[46] For had ye believed Moses, ye would have believed me: for he wrote of me.
[47] But if ye believe not his writings, how shall ye believe my words?
So this whole chapter is about the law, Christ’s authority over the law, and how we receive mercy and redemption from that law through Christ. And that is the number 5. 🙂

I also find it intersting that it seems to suggest a way of knowing truth that comes from within. Not from man (flesh) but from a place of the heart that is Jesus. It almost seems as if that place after centuries of corruption was closed, and Jesus reopend it.

+1 for you. 🙂
Had Christ a thousand times,
Been born in Bethlehem,
But not in thee, thy sin
Would still thy soul condemn.
He who before the Lord
With envy comes and hate
Will hatred with his prayers
And envy impetrate.
I say it speeds thee not
That Christ rose from the grave,
So long as thou art still
To death and sin a slave.
Golgotha’s cross from sin
Can never ransom thee,
Unless in thine own soul
It should erected be.
–Angelus Silesius (German Mystic)
Also,
And when he was demanded of the Pharisees, when the kingdom of God should come, he answered them and said, The kingdom of God cometh not with observation: Neither shall they say, Lo here! or, lo there! for, behold, the kingdom of God is within you.
–Luke 17:20-21

That was beautiful! Thank you for your feedback:)
Outwardly we can follow, but within is the real truth that can be seen by no one but God. Often we humans cannot even see it ( forgive them for they know not what they do). We are so blinded by our selfishness. We must die to it first and surrender and faith begins to really work. We cannot control God we can only work for and with him, not many people are brave enough to do this. Who can give up evey outward form of power and surrender their ideas of what they should do to the silence within? To the speaker that cannot be seen without the eye of faith. We have forgotten, we always forget because we fear and do not love. People who claim to have faith put trust on the fleeting when the eternal was there all along it can never leave us we can only blind ourselves to the truth.
