I hear a lot of priests say that God wants to enter into a personal relationship with us. This is the heart of Christianity (and perhaps Judaism?). What I’d like to know is if this way of expressing the faith has always existed explicitly, or has it been something implicit over the centuries and only been put in these terms in the 20th century.
