This is a great idea which I think should be revived everywhere. They also fit right into the spirit of Laudato Si and the generla pontificate of Pope Francis. As the old Catholic Encyclopedia notes, the purpose of Ember days is traditionally "to thank God for the gifts of nature, to teach men to make use of them in moderation, and to assist the needy.”
