I found this specific church, which is present in the Manila area. Do you think they’re in union with the Bishop of Rome, the Pope? They’re under the name “Syrian-Chaldean, Eastern Catholic Church”. Their altar servers are dressed up like bishops. And they have monks who are kids.

They gave links to the following sites:
syrianchurch.org/
tlig.org (isn’t this alarming?)

I also found this site:
easterncatholicchurch.org/about.html

I hope you can give me info about them, if you know them.

Ave Maria.

PS: Please take a look at their photo gallery. They have ‘inter faith mass’(i thought they sholud be having divine liturgy?), and I think ‘Syrian Chaldean Eastern Catholic Church’ is their proper name. They have mass, with ‘former ECC bishops’, had ordinations at ‘Veteran Ecumenical Church’…and so on… Your opinion please.

they are not Catholic, ie, they are not in union with Rome.

They are the protestant flavor of Thomas Christians, probably a branch off of the Chaldean Syrian Church (CSC) of India. Either that, or vagante following the texts of same. Their front page makes reference to the Anglican period, which puts them most likely in the CSC.

They seem to have had audience with HH Mar Addai II of the Assyrian Church of the East… but have no photos of concelebration with him. Which strongly implies no communion.

Their proclamations page makes clear that they are not part of the Catholic Communion; they are explicitly (byt their own admission) excommunicated by Rome.

Their episcopal ordinations are thus suspect; thus also all their ordinations.

They also spout a good deal of anti-catholic propaganda; propaganda typical of vagante.

how silly - the so-called metropolitan vests in Syriac style clothes prior to “liturgy” then switches to Byzantine vestments, ordains in the Latin Rite, and calls himself Chaldean…

Oh yeah … I noticed that too. :rotfl: For me it was the Byzantine crown that was the icing on the cake. Kind of sad really, but still good for a laugh. 😃

I might have forgotten to post the link to the photo album:
eccmonks.multiply.com/

thank you for your thoughts about this. I think they’re similar to a ‘Charismatic Episcopalian Church’ which I have seen before on TV. .

Also, the quality of the vestments. I don’t know if it’s just me, but sometimes, the quality of the vestments that you can see in the photos says if they are true. The pictures shown in the links, the vestments are really flimsy, and the pictures are sort of 60’s.

The quality is hard to tell in the photos, but what’s not hard for me to tell is the mish-mash of Roman, Syriac, Chaldean, Byzantine (and probably other things too). What a circus! :rotfl:If the group were legit, I’d probably overlook flimsy since maybe they couldn’t afford better. But this outfit is something else.

Yes, yes! :rotfl: ! They have, well “multiple personalities”!

Where are the child-monks, though? And the servers dressed like bishops?

The group is confusing me…They might have built a church on a squatter’s area since it got destroyed by the authorities. They celebrate Mass ala Ordinary For of the Latin Mass,

A mass by the ‘Eastern Catholic Church’

Their Mass is like a Latin Rite Novus Ordo, but they are ‘Syrian-Chaldean, Eastern Catholic Church’. It’s confusing. I contacted them but they didn’t replied.

No, it’s not at all the same. What the previous poster is referring to is the real Chaldean Church, which has a diocese and a few churches in Lebanon. The designation sometimes appears as “église syro-chaldéan” or “église catholique syro-chaldéan” in French.

Chaldean Catholic Church, a part of the Church of the East. Some claim Assyrians and Chaldeans are separate ethnic groups who belong to this church, but only Chaldean belong to this church while Assyrians belong to the Assyrian Church of the East. Once Nestorian, currently with 2.5 million members and a Cardinal in Rome, is an Eastern rite church prevalent in Iraq, Iran, and Lebanon, united with the Roman Catholic Church since 1830, and intermittently from 1551. The Christians of St Thomas in Malabar Coast (Kerala since 1956) were part of this church until they came in full communion with RCC in 1599 and a separate *sui iuris *church, the Syro Malabar Catholic Church was formed in 1887. The clergy in the Chaldean Catholic and Syro Malabar Catholic church wear the same vestments. A picture posted on another thread with the heads of Eastern churches with the Pope, shows the cardinals of Chaldean Catholic Church and Syro Malabar Church wearing the same vestments.
