I am so happy with the results! Sabra is an amazing dancer, and definitely deserved it. I would have been happy with Danny or Neil too, but I was really rooting for Sabra.

Yeah, we sure were hootin’ and hollerin’ here, especially when Lacey’s name was called first.

That was relief. She’s very talented, yes, but even when she danced that samba with Danny, Heidi was much better technically with Benji in the mambo than Lacey. Heidi didn’t win last year so it just didn’t seem right to say Lacey was better than Heidi. At least that’s how we looked at it.

I’m a little concerned that Sabra won on the ‘it’s time a woman wins’ platform, but she’s so talented it doesn’t really matter if that was the edge she needed to win. She certainly deserved it on technique and personality alone. It was a great top 2.

I was really pleased with the entire 2 hour finale. All along I’ve been complaining about the routines and such, but seeing them highlighted like that last night was a good way to show there really were some gems in this season worth a tour. Those attending the show will be pleased.

I’m going to miss the show…I do enjoy dancing.

Do you go to ballet? I like that too…

I always wanted to dance but had no talent for it…😊 🤷

I got into the show because of my daughter. She’s 17 and is looking into minoring in Musical Theater when she goes to college. She’s had acting and singing lessons over the years and has been in community stage productions since fourth grade but when she saw SYTYCD last year she was lamenting not having pursued dance.

That’s why she was inspired by Donyelle who started dance lessons later in her life and who shares my daughter’s body type (short, curvy and hippy). With Sabra having started her training at 16 to be able to perform as she did this season after four years my daughter now has hope that it’s not too late for her to develop into a strong dancer. She’s signing up for adult ballet lessons at the local university for the fall! We’ll see how she takes to it.

She did see a live ballet production of Giselle last spring and while she enjoyed the dances she did not enjoy the overall experience. She wanted singing and acting to help tell the story, which only convinced her she would want a musical theater minor or major and not just acting, or just vocal, or just dance. She needs the combination.

If anyone knows of any good Musical Theater programs out there let me know. We’ll be planning campus visits for the fall and spring.

YinYangMom…I think its good you can enjoy and encourge your daughter…👍

I’m going to make a point of seeing some performances…perhaps this Fall…

Will you be seeing ‘So you think you can Dance’ when they tour?

I love that picture!

I had my pointe shoes out last week and discovered they are a little too tight since having the baby. 😦

Oh, well. They’re still fun! 😛

Not really. :o I do keep up my yoga and pilates, though. The closest studios are about 40 minutes away. I wish I was back to it! I just happened to notice the shoes and slipped them on. 😃

ahh but slipping on the shoes is just the beginning:)

Do you know who Anna Pavlova was…? I have a cool picture of her…I’ll see if I can post one like it…

Love Pavlova!! I’m not sure if I have a favorite ballerina, but I love everything the Ballet Russes did. There’s a very interesting documentary about the company. When we rented it from Netflix I think I watched it four times sitting very close to the TV to see everything. Just like my mother always told me not to…

Oh I have not watched that dvd…think I’ll try and rent it or buy it…sounds good:thumbsup:

Here are a few: Florida State, Oklahoma City University, Carnegie Mellon, Cincinnati Conservatory, Boston Conservatory, University of Michigan, James Madison University.

Indiana University has a fabulous school of music - not certain re: musical theatre, but an extremely strong voice program.

I’m not sure the order in which they are ranked, though I’m sure you could find out. I know Florida State is hugely competitive and highly regarded.

Our two daughters danced in a small ballet company and have several friends who have become involved in musical theatre - Broadway, national tours, etc. They went to CIncinnati Conservatory and Florida State.

Good luck!

Marie

Wow, none of those were on her list.
She has:
Roosevelt
Connecticut Conservatory of Music
East Carolina University
Ball State

Thanks for the references. We’ll be sure to check them out.

returning thread to original topic

If anyone goes to the SYTYCD tour or know of anyone who does, please fill us in here. We won’t be attending, too many other financial priorities for us.

I have a friend who went here: amda.edu/

I think it’s a two year program, but she could always transfer. 🙂

I think I’ve also heard SUNY Fredonia has a program, SUNY Buffalo might, and SUNY Brockport has an incredible dance program (I went there), but it’s mostly modern.
