actually genius they do in fact say the tabernacle needs to be near the alter. it has to have the place a greatest honor. that means it must even have a place greater then the priests when he is saying mass. aka the center which is usually near the alter.
Snide veiled abusive remark aside - no the quotes do not say that.

And they definitely do not show that the reserved Blessed Sacrament is to have a place of ‘greatest honor’ and ‘greater then when the priests when he is saying mass’.

no your wrong the eucharist is the source and summit of the faith. the tabernacle belongs right there in the middle of the church. if not in fact in the center then in sight of the alter. not in some closet so for away that you are not even aware the church has a gold box unless you specfically ask.
Are you aware of the reasons for reserving any amount of the Blessed Sacrament?

read it again without imposing your preexisting conclusion on it you will find it says exactly that in so many words.

are you aware of the value of what is in that Gold box. do you care? The blessed sacrament is the source and summit of the faith. it is the entire point of Catholic Christian spiratual life. Are you getting it. The tabernacle deserves the place of greatest honor because it contains the point of the entire exercise. You cannot exaggerate it. So yes the place of greatest honor is going to be somewhere right in the middle of things. anything less is doing a dishonor to God.

My Priest says the only reason to kneal or Genuflect is the Host. I find it interesting when people do this facing the wall behind te alter. I feel most people have no idea why they are doing this. Maybe they were brought up in a parish where the Tabernacle was locked away in a room. There may be no actuall rule stating the Host needs to be stored near the alter but by moving it out it seems to me that you lose some of the reverence. Also this means the Priest can properly place the host in the Tabernacle without leaving the Mass.👍

The tabernacle does not have to be a ‘gold box’ - there are requirements for the interior but the box can be of materials other than gold.

For your edification - reason for reserving the Blessed Sacrament, primarily, are for bringing to the sick, homebound and dying as well as private prayer/meditation though in areas where a priest may not be available for Mass there may also be enough reserved for potential Communion Services.

While the area for the tabernacle should be worthy and appropriate for its uses NOTHING in the Church’s own documents says it gets the ‘greatest honor’ or requires it to be ‘in the middle of things’.

You said it yourself-and for adoration. The placement of the tabernacle is a big deal, and it should be central, prominent, and worthy of God. I have been to Masses with it in the sanctuary behind the altar and off to the side, and the former is far more reverant and focused on God, regardless of any music or other practices.

Except that at Mass the focus should be on Jesus present on the altar, not present in the tabernacle. I believe this is a major reason for the change in thinking about the location of the tabernacle.

AND present in the priest during Mass!

I agree with this statement. But I would also add the word Prominent…when in reference to the location of the tabernacle.

At least that is what the vatican has said…(redemptionis sacramentum)

Catechism of the Catholic Church states:

1183 The tabernacle is to be situated “in churches in a most worthy place with the greatest honor.”

so that proves your statement incorrect. the chruchs own documents state in so many words (which were previously posted in this thread for your inspection) exactly that if you would like me to go back and lift the bit about the prominent placement I will. but really you only have to go back to page 1 of this thread.

As for the gold box. we both know that 9/10 of all tabernacles are just that Gold boxes. I have been on 3 continents I have seen a lot of churchs personnally in some of the poorest places in South Africa they were all made of Gold. So to call it a Gold box is accurate.

as to your continued need to express why the sacrament might need to be reserved…THEY ARE IRRELEVANT to the LOCATION of the tabernacle which is the focus of our discussion.

AND present in the priest during Mass!
again irrelevant to the location of the tabernacle which must have the place of greatest honor per church document. as to the other poster there has been no change of attitude by the church documents as to the location of the tabernacle. individual priests perhaps but not church teaching. according to church teaching God is never to be reserved in a closet so far away form the place of greatest honor that he cannot be seen by the congregation during a mass or by passers by as they enter the church.

You are not seriously sayng that Almighty God can be confined in a gold box?
God cann’t be ‘seen’ anyway. Only the accidents of the Host, and those only during Exposition (and of course, during Holy Communion).

maybe you should read a little more about church teaching before you post something like that. I am not even being remotely funny. Church teaching says that the blessed sacrament is the body blood soul and divinity. the blessed sacrament is God. More properly the person of Jesus Christ who is a divine person. So yes that which is infinite has confined himself to a gold box so you might know him. that which has no time has come into your present. That which has no form has taken the form of bread that you might eat him and exist with him for a little while. Yes I am seriously saying that Almighty God has confined HIMSELF to a gold box. The church teaches that completely it is not optional.

The only reason for the tabernacle is to hold the reserved Blessed Sacrament and the Blessed Sacrament is reserved for specific reasons so it is very much an aspect of this discussion.

Without these reasons then there would be NO need for the tabernacle.

As to the location, the Church does not require it to be in the Sanctuary in any of the quotes.

Prominent does not mean the sanctuary, nor do any of the words you have highlighted in your other posts. IF the Church meant that the Church would have used the word sanctuary.

You seem to have mixed up the meaning of some of the quotes - you misplaced the application of ‘greatest honor’ as seen here:
Catechism of the Catholic Church
1183 The tabernacle is to be situated “in churches in a most worthy place with the greatest honor.” The dignity, placing, and security of the Eucharistic tabernacle should foster adoration before the Lord really present in the Blessed Sacrament of the altar.
This ties back to the following:
Code of Canon Law:
Canon 938
º1. The Most Holy Eucharist is to be reserved regularly in only one tabernacle of a church or oratory.
º2. The tabernacle in which the Most Holy Eucharist is reserved should be placed in a part of the church that is prominent, conspicuous, beautifully decorated, and suitable for prayer.

There is no reason for the congregation to have to see the tabernacle during a Mass and the Church does not teach this.

i’m sure you don’t mean to say that therefore, God isn’t anywhere else, but that is the implication of saying that He is confined in the Tabernacle, and that we need to ‘see’ Him there.
God is everywhere. We can’t see Him at all. At best, we can see the accidents of the Holy Eucharist - we are not ‘seeing’ Him.

Oh my gosh!!! All this back and forth and rules and style and all this silliness!!!

This could all be so easily eliminated if everyone just remembered that Jesus is inside that box. And if that is the case, then where should we put Him?

Front and center sounds pretty simple to me. Does it really have to be more complicated than that?

Sheesh!!

🤷

There is no reason for it to be in the middle of where Mass is held.
Where would be your next choice?

There is no reason for it NOT to be!

I’m still not getting this issue. Why is it that people feel it is totally appropriate and acceptable to shove Jesus off in a corner someplace? What is wrong with having the tabernacle on the altar as it has been for ages?

🤷
