My daughter (10) and I have a Podcast about board gaming called, “Catholic Board Gamer” on iTunes & Stitcher.

Comment below with your favorite board game and I will suggest a board game that I think you might also enjoy. 🎲

Go!

Civilization (the 1980 version)
You play much heavier games than we play : ) I did playtest a game currently in development called, “Sugarcane” that I think you would enjoy. My brother introduced me to a game called,
“The Manhattan Project: Energy Empire.” I really liked it.

Sounds like you like games of chance. I playtested a game in development called, “Going Fishing” and there is a game that just came out called, “Trash Pandas” that are press your luck games. If you like simple games, you might also like, “LCR” Dice Game.

Monopoly is mocked by board game snobs, but I still like a good game of Monopoly. Whenever I see a themed Monopoly Game at the thrift store or a garage sale, I buy it for the pewter pieces. I have a tackle box full of various tokens (from the traditional iron to the John Deere Tractor : )

A great alternative to Monopoly that everyone in our family loves is, “Machi Koro!” Definitely check it out : )

Have not gotten a chance to play it. Our friends from Tennessee said that they are going to bring it up the next time they are in town. I don’t want to buy it without playing it. We’ve been burned in the past. We bought “Smash Up” and it just isn’t a game that we enjoyed. I’ve been trying to use it as trade-bait, but have had no takers. We also bought the Pretty Pretty Expansion, which is cute, I admit. I also took the survey to receive the special Sheep faction. So if anyone in Ohio or Michigan wants to make me an offer/trade, let me know ; )

The only thing coming to mind are, “Boggle,” “Balderdash,” “Taboo,” and “Codenames,” as these are all games that have to do with words.

How about a nice quick game of Campaign for North Africa? 😛

Ganes that you should try though

Ticket to Ride
Ticket to Ride Rails and Sails
Catan (and try mingling Original + Seafarers or Pirates and Explorers + Cities and Knights + Traders and Barbarians all at once. You end needing ~25 victory points to win.)
Rise and Fall
Swords and Sorcery
Dungeons and Dragons
Excalibur

“Seven Wonders” is a great game! I played it last Christmas with my Cousins. You might like “Splendor” with the expansion (which adds a little bit more strategy to the game.)

I haven’t heard of Splendor before. I’ll have to ask my friend (who owns an obscene number of board games) if he has that one. 🙂

Do you know of any good games in that vein that can be played by up to 7 or 8 people? One of the things my friends and I like about 7 Wonders is that it can be played with a bigger group. And yet, everyone is basically taking their turns simultaneously, so people aren’t sitting around waiting for 85% of the game.

Some of my favorite games that can be played with 7+ players include:
  • Sushi Go! Party
  • One Night Ultimate Werewolf
  • Deception: Murder in Hong Kong
  • Codenames
  • The Resistance
  • Love Letter (Premium Edition)
  • Wits & Wagers
There are a log of co-op games that allow for more players, if that is your sort of thing.
