I could see Rome possibly allowing them to be a Rite (as opposed to a usage of the Roman Rite), but I doubt that Rome would grant them sui iuris status. It’s a pretty firmly established/entrenched idea that there’s only one sui iuris church in the west (however many there may be in the east).

I am just tossing this out there, as a collection of random thoughts.

Rites are not made, they are actually organic.

There is no real reason there couldn’t be a second Sui Iuris church sharing a rite (IOW that a Rite couldn’t cross jurisdictions). Or even that a Sui Iuris church has a second Rite within it. It’s just an artificial distinction.

I think it would be fair to say that the Ambrosian and Mozarabic liturgical traditions were true Rites once, before they were so Latinized. For the present I would hesitate to make that claim.

But is liturgical conformity really all that bad? I don’t think so, it was the ideal once, and either way has more to do with human sentiment than any kind of necessity. It is essential that the liturgical rites and the prayers they use arise from and support the correct theology.

If they don’t, or can be compromised, they aren’t worth a damn.
