Tacky wedding colors?

I am sort of pre-planning my wedding. there hasn’t been an actual engagement ring but we both know we are going to get married and we are planning on the date of May 2nd 2009. I have chosen the colors I want for my bridesmaids but I have received mixed reactions. Just so you know my personality is loud, fun, and bubbly. I tend to lean towards bright colors (my Confirmation banner was hot pink 😃 ). The colors I am wanting are orange and fuschia. Tangelo and fuschia to be precise. I think the colors are beautiful together but I’m curious as to how you all feel about it. Should I think of something more neutral? Should I just choose one? Any advice and/or opinions would be appreciated
Are the bridesmaids wearing both colors or one? Alternating dreses or both colors on the dress?

If you choose the more subdued one as the dominant color and the more vibrant one as an accent, I bet it would be beautiful.

Have you checked out www.theknot.com

Another idea–I found this really cute alternative to a wrap or shrug for bridesmaids at the Jasmine website. They have it in all different colors and fabrics, and it would definitely go well with a strapless dress!:

I’d like to reiterate what others have said about the marriage prep being equally important as the wedding planning. I’m excited about the wedding, but it’s only one day, and we have tons of other stuff to prepare for in our life together! So just be sure to keep it in perspective 😃

Beautiful! I love those colors together. The problem you might is is that orange is a hard color to wear. Really think about your brides maids coloring before you decide to put them in orange.

What if you had the girls in a neutral color and had them carry the fushia and orange flowers? I just can’t think of the neutral color at the moment.

When my brother married several years ago, I was honored to be asked to be a member of the bridal party. My beautiful future SIL chose the color and sent plenty of the same fabric to me and her sisters. We were to choose any style we wanted and have our dresses made. Her sisters looked stunning – I didn’t have much time to plan, and my body shape and skin tone are very different from theirs – anyone want my “Reynold’s Wrap” dress? (it’s silver) 😃

I saw a black and white wedding once. Everything was black and white down to the bride and groom. I thought it was beautiful.

It beats “bashful and blush” ala *Steel Magnolias, *or that blue out of My Big, Fat, Greek Wedding. I like orange and fushia a lot. And I know a woman who had it at her wedding several years ago, let’s see, 6 years ago. The color photos look great.

As long as the parish in question doesn’t care and you follow their rules for the wedding (because, even though it is a special day for you and your intended, it is God’s House and Catholics have Sacrament of Matrimony rules and regs that must be observed), go with it!!!

I think the color combo is fun, whimsical and absolutely your decision.

Face it - rarely rarely will anyone ever wear a bridesmaid’s dress again! So that thought should go right out the window.

Also, for those that may not look good in that color, there is so much skin between the dress and the face that most can pull it off just fine without it being a huge blunder to skin color.

Possibly pair it up with a nice shawl type cover for the church.
Congrats on your upcoming engagement.

My wedding is 3 months away smack after Easter. Though you have more picked out apparently then I have.

The colour combo is vibrantly beautiful! Did you see the bridesmaids’ gowns at the wedding of Princess Mary and Crown Prince Frederik of Denmark several years ago? If it’s good enough for a royal wedding it’s definately not tacky! 🙂

Those are not the colors I would choose, but remember, it’s YOUR wedding! Don’t let other people dictate your preferences. Maybe you should not talk to too many people about what you’re thinking about yet. I made that mistake while planning my wedding, and got lots of unsolicited advice. My MIL thought I should get orange bridesmaid dresses. I HATE orange. I was like, is this your wedding? I don’t think so. 🙂 I mean come on, it’s not as if she would have to wear the dress!

I admit, when I first heard “orange and fushia,” I thought “ew,” but I actually liked the dresses in the link you provided.

I do think you should take your bridesmaids’ feelings into account, since they do have to buy the dress and wear it. Maybe try to find something that looks good on them and that they can live with that’s still a color you like. You said all three of your bridesmaids like the colors, so I’d say you have nothing to worry about. No one else’s opinion matters, least of all total strangers on the internet. 🙂

I’ve loved the color pink since I was a little girl, and I wanted pink bridesmaids dresses. As it turned out we got lavender dresses, since it was a dress all three of my bridesmaids (and me) liked. It was ok with me – lavender is my second-favorite color, and the dress was really pretty, with little white flowers on the front. Maybe I should have just ordered pink dresses and said “you’re wearing this!” but I’m a bit of a pushover. Cest le vie. 🙂
In a sense, this IS your day: Your day to make as many people happy as you can. That doesn’t mean letting them walk on you, and at some point you have to stand firm so as not to get yourself pulled to pieces, but generally, Your Day is for other people.
I’m not sure I completely agree with this. (Though I don’t like this idea in our culture that a wedding is “all about the bride.” It’s about the bride AND the groom.) You should definitely make sure your guests are comfortable and have fun, but I’m sorry, Aunt Millie gets NO SAY in the wedding colors, the type of flowers or the flavor of cake. I know if I were a bridesmaid, I would wear whatever the bride wanted. I would want her and her husband to have “their day,” just like my husband and I had ours. My only condition would be that the dress be within an agreed-upon budget. It’s not fair to try to mess with someone else’s wedding. Why on earth do these people *care *what colors you have?!?

Don’t get me wrong, I am NOT saying you should indulge in excessive egoism at your wedding or be rude to guests. Only that they get no say in the details of the planning. At our wedding, we had a fantastic reception with a great DJ. Everyone had a great time. I’ve been to weddings with speech after boring speech about how great the couple is; at our wedding, we had the best man’s toast and that was it. We wanted to get right to the dancing. 🙂 Everyone loved our wedding – it was a win-win situation.
