US pushing surge in arms sales to ‘Fortress Taiwan’

‘NO EQUILIBRIUM’: Taiwan’s increased defense spending is a good step, but it needs to do more to have the ability to deter aggression from China, a senior US official said
Reuters, WASHINGTON

The US plans to sell as many as seven major weapons systems — including mines, cruise missiles and drones — to Taiwan, four people familiar with the discussions said.

Pursuing seven sales at once is a rare departure from years of precedent in which US military sales to Taiwan were spaced out and carefully calibrated to minimize tensions with Beijing.

However, US President Donald Trump’s administration has this year become more aggressive with China, and the sales would land as relations between Beijing and Washington are at their lowest point in decades over accusations of spying, lingering trade tensions, disputes about the COVID-19 pandemic, alleged human rights abuses in Xinjiang and Hong Kong’s new National Security Law.
The BBC has their report as well, so this is mainstream news.

Good, Taiwan will need as much help as they can get. China will invade sooner rather than later. Hopefully, Taiwan can hold out until help arrives 🇺🇸 :taiwan:

Problems with selling “Major Weapon Systems” to a foreign country.
  1. Is our technology superior to China’s?
  2. If so, then what happens in the event China does invades Taiwan and conquers them? China gets access to our superior technology and reverse engineers it.

  1. Will we really come to the aid of Taiwan and risk an all out war with China which could go Nuclear?

Is our technology superior to China’s?
I believe so, yes.
Will we really come to the aid of Taiwan and risk an all out war with China which could go Nuclear?
If we provide aid and weapons, I believe we should. Not only for technological security, like you mentioned, but also to stop their Communist expansion. Furthermore, we should have an alliance prepared to fight them.

I really hope I don’t see war between China and the US in my lifetime, but both powers are calling for blood. If war does break out then I hope there is a lot of public resistance to it in both countries.

Brush up on mandarin because were all going to be working for them one day and interpreters who collaborate will likely get treated well.

The second half of the century will belong to China. The US is on the downhill slope. At best we’ll be a has been like Britain of France.

Some US military brass have said that it’s already to late to stop China’s dominance in the South China Sea, the only option now would be military action. China has always claimed Taiwan as their territory, I’ll bet they’re not happy with the US supplying weapons to them neither, like the US, the Chinese military has hawks as well who would love to strike a blow against the US. The Chinese President Xi J(name removed by moderator)ing is reportedly furious with some of his military over their poor performance in their dispute with India, and some Chinese party leaders are not too impressed with his leadership. Maybe if he’s pushed too far it might be a costly mistake for not only the US but the world.
