Have any of you guys been to one of these? I LOVE THEM!

In the Spirit of Taizé is an ecumenical form of prayer modeled after the Taizé community (an ecumenical Christian monastic community of brothers) founded in the 1940’s by Br. Roger in Taizé, France. The purpose of the prayer is to foster reconciliation and peace among all people. Christians of all traditions share in this ecumenical prayer. The simple monthly service consists of song (using the simple chants of the Taize community), scripture, a service of light, an extended period of silence for meditation concluding with prayers for the world.

I have!

In LeMont Illinois some years ago. Yes, they are very worthwhile.

One could call it a form of Divine Praises … very moving.

I find the services to bring me so close to God. I love the 15 minutes of silence in the middle of the service.

I will be attending the service tonight at the Ascension Catholic Church at 7:30pm in Oak Park, IL

A parish I used to belong to had Taize prayer services. I wasn’t able to go and don’t know if they still do. I’ve never been to one but have several tapes and CD’s and have used them privately for prayer, especially on long road trips. It turned otherwise boring drives into mini-retreats.

The simple monthly service
Over at the monastery they have these prayer services 3 times…a day, for the most part sitting/kneeling on the floor  (rug). A week of praying and chanting with the ‘brothers’ can really get ones prayer life going.

I have attended several times a Taize Prayer Service at Trinity Episcopal Cathedral in Portland…they are held once a month…it is a wonderful experience.

I think I know that parish.

I do know St. Edmunds’ on (I think) South Oak Park Ave. I used to like to travel to Oak Park for Mass on occasion some years ago.

Although today, I am Orthodox and live in China. There is one poor little Catholic church some miles down the road and one similar sized Protestant church. Neither have Taizé prayer, as far as I know, otherwise I think I would be very tempted to go. 🙂

Pray for Christianity in China.

The service was beautiful and I felt the presence of the Holy Spirit so much!

Could you tell me the circumstances by which you decided to move to China? How big of a town do you live in? So there are actual Catholic and Protestant churches there? Are they government approved?
