Is the Taj Mahal an Islamic mosque?

I always thought an emperor built it in memory of his wife but I heard on TV last night that that story is just a legend. Does anybody know the origins of this building?
 
The Taj Mahal is a mausoleum and from what I have found was built by Shah Jahan after the death of his wife.%between%
 
Taj Mahal was built by the Moghul Emperor Shajahan in memory of his wife Mumtaz.

No there is an accompanying masjid/mosque on the site, but the actual Taj Mahal itself is a mausoleum.

The Taj Mahal itself is not a mosque. however the emperor who built it was Muslim.

Taj means ‘‘crown’’ in arabic

Mahal means ‘‘place’’ in arabic.
