Take A Stand for Religious Freedom

On Friday, 2/24 @ 10:30AM Rep. Kathy Hochul (NY-26) was surprised at her Town Hall Meeting in Lancaster, NY when well over 100 Catholics confronted her about the violation of religious freedom inherent in the HHS Mandate, and the inadequacy of President Obama’s so-called “compromise”.

The FIRST Amendment to the US Constitution reads (the underlining is mine):

“Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.”
This FIRST (most important) Freedom, the free exercise of religion, is before the Freedom of Speech.

Religion has two basic parts: 1) worship, 2) ministry (service) to the needy. Christians have been providing services to the needy since the days Christ was on earth.

The Obama Administration is REDEFINING the meaning of ‘an establishment of religion’ to EXCLUDE the ministry half of religious establishments. By excluding ministry, he then tells those religious establishments that they HAVE TO pay for services they have long held to be immoral, against the Will of God. By what right does any president get to redefine such an important term in our US Constitution?

His so called ‘compromise’ was to say the religious establishments will not have to pay, but their insurance providers must provide the immoral service for free. Two problems with this. 1) the immoral services will be provided in the name of the religious establishments. 2) Does anyone think the insurance providers will not find a way to pass on those cost in future rate increases?

It is time we exercise the last Freedom in the First Amendment: we must petition the Government for a redress of our grievances:
  1. Write or e-mail your pastor and Bishop to express support for their efforts to get this mandate redrawn.
  2. Write or e-mail your Congressman or woman and both Senators too.
  3. Sign the petition at www.stophhs.org
  4. Ask all your family and friends to do likewise.

This president never hid his disdain for the Church, nor his declaration to ‘change’ things. Am I the only one not surprised by the move to dismantle the Establishment Clause?

It offers no conscience clause for private employers either.

Indeed. I was quite surprised that many more have not noticed Obama’s disdain for actual faith.
