Your thoughts?
Looking back on my decades as a Protestant, I think you’re probably right.

My daughter (a professional stage manager who joined the Catholic Church this year) describes it this way: The Catholic Mass is the Real Thing. Everything else is a “pageant” of the Real Thing.

I think that is a very accurate description of Catholicism vs. Protestantism.

Take doctrine, from Judaism, ‘tweak’ it a bit, and you’ve got -----> Christianity: http://bestsmileys.com/cool/1.gif

The one God becomes three ‘persons’ in one.

Adam’s sin becomes ‘inherited.’

The messiah, foretold in the Hebrew scriptures, becomes a God/man -
who saves us… from something that doesn’t exist – ‘original sin.’

No matter which church one looks to:

-the earliest ‘ecclesial entity’
-the group that broke off in 1054
-the group that broke off, in the 16th century
-other denominations of Christianity

…all teach the same thing:

God is triune in nature
[then one church splits off, as the earliest ecclesial entity
goes ahead and ‘defines’ the order of procession, within this trinity]
Adam’s sin becomes part of the being, of each born [original sin]
A savior is called for, to save us from this non-existant reality.

The term ‘fullness of revelation’ is employed, to ‘explain’ all of this.

Yup.
‘Tweak’ Judaic doctrine…and you’ve got Christianity. :harp:

Jesus is the fulfillment of what they believe.

Kind of like the Protestantants are still having a “dress rehearsal”😃

Ahhhh, but they do tweak. Lets take sin for example. If someone does something small Catholics call it “venial” protestants say " we all sin were only human keep trucking along" If Catholics do something serious we call it “mortal sin.” Protestants call it “backsliding” Yet many protestants say all sin is equel. It doesnt make any sense. God Bless

Hello Richard 1,

I see that you are a Catholic, so I will just add that the Catholic Church defines Christianity to it’s faithful, the Catholic Church doesn’t “say” anything, God has already said it, the Cannon was closed hundreds of years ago.

BTW (for those who don’t know) Venial and Mortal Sins and the difference between the two, are in the Bible.

Thank you for your post.

Peace. 🙂

*Take something Catholic, “tweak” it a little… and make it Protestant….

All Protestantism is…is an exercise in semantics. *

*Every non-Catholic Christian belief today (except for heretical beliefs), are just Catholic beliefs, with a “Protestant twist”. *

One cannot connect the “Christian dots” without connecting the “Catholic dots”!!!

Like how Protestants seemingly claim that Christ gave us a Bible and not a Church. (I know, Protestants, you do not actually say that.)

“Take this book and give it to all the nations.”
wait…that was a mis-translation of mine… ;0)

Preach to all the nations implies some kind of oral tradition.

Take for instance the beginning of Luke’s Gospel:

1 Since many have undertaken to compile a narrative of the events that have been fulfilled among us, 2 just as those who were eyewitnesses from the beginning and ministers of the word have handed them down to us, 3 I too have decided, after investigating everything accurately anew, to write it down in an orderly sequence for you, most excellent Theophilus, 4 so that you may realize the certainty of the teachings you have received.

The Bible is not the end all be all of Christanity…it is the story of God and His people.

Like how they took the Catholic Bible and tweaked it and made it their own.

I do not see how they trust that the Holy Spirit guided the compiling of the New Testament, but when it came to the Old Testament the Holy Spirit was misguided.

A major non-tweak:

How about the deafening silence coming from Protestantism concerning the evils of contraception?

Even Focus on the Family sends a mixed message about oral contraceptives.

Unbelievable? Here’s your link.

Oh, by the way, have a nice day.
Hello mark a,

Who is “Focus on the Family”?

Peace

I cannot believe how you consistantly get away with insulting and degrading Protestants here. Your behavior is sinful and unChristianlike sir. This whole line of pointed questions and venom spewing toward anyone who doesn’t see it quite like you and good ole’ Rome is despicable.

Please explain to me what part of this quote that you believe is false…Thank you 🙂 *

every last word of it. Clear enough?
Hello SIA, 👋

Why? Could you please elaborate? I ask this, because I believe that it is true that Protestants have taken things Catholic and “tweaked” them a little… to make them Protestant.

I would like to know why you believe this to be a false statement.

Thank you for your post.

Peace 🙂
