Are SSPX Priests considered Catholic Priests?

Would taking advice from SSPX Priests be wrong even if the advice given is in line with Church teaching?

Edit: The second question is because I read that the SSPX Priests are prohibited from exercising priestly duties.

“The priests of the Society of St. Pius X are validly ordained, but suspended, that is prohibited from exercising their priestly functions’’

It seems like you’ve started threads like this before, along with threads on scrupulousity. For these kinds of problems, strangers on the Internet are not the place to seek answers. You will get differing answers that will leave you more troubled.

How would you know if the advice is in line with Church teaching?

Or, if you already know anyway what the Church teaching would lead one to do, what would you want from the advice?

I am sure there are some SSPX priests whose advice is pretty good, and I know there are some priests, currently in standing with the Church, whose advice is not so good. You could also say the wisest Lutheran ministers are likely better advisors than the most foolish priests in good standing. But in general, the prudent path for a Catholic is to seek out advice from a priest in good standing.

I think the moral theology is pretty much the same. They mainly differ in issues like Communion in the hand, what Mass forms are valid, etc

You’re an adult and you can go to anybody for advice. I would not consult an SSPX priest because even though their moral theology is in theory in parallel with the Catechism, it isn’t a good idea in principle to develop obedience from somebody whose vocational life is a definitional prolonged act of disobedience.

Peace.

When it comes to theology, including moral theology, I expect the SSPX priest would be on par with any well-formed non-SSPX priest. Rather zealous about traditional Catholicism but then, so are the FSSP. 🙂

You can trust the SSPX priests about moral issues. I think they only differ with other “in communion with Rome groups” on matters about obeying Rome.
But definitely talk to them if you want answers based on pre-Vatican II teachings. (a Traditional point of view)

Your use of the word “only” covers an awful lot!
Keep in mind the 1960 priest was not only guided by the minor detail of being in union with Rome but also unity of guidance with his local bishop ordinary and diocese. Lacking that, there is no traditional priest.

Why do you assume BridgetN is trivializing the communion issue by her use of the word, " only?"

I apologize if my post sounded offensive in any way. I try to be fair in not inferring about other posters but sometimes my wording can be a little sharp. Sarcasm slips in my posts at times.
