Casilda:
You have the fortune of having a true servant of God, a merciful shepherd for a priest. I see that back in post #26, you received his answer. No other opinions matter.
God’s opinion matters.

I am including in my petitions tonight that this thread be allowed to remain open until the apologist may answer the question, so that charity will not be offended. God, have mercy us. Christ, have mercy on us. Lord, I pray that our actions are not motivated by fear, because we value uniformity merely for its own sake, but that we always be brave in seeking your will and allowing our hearts & minds to grow, even if it should come at the cost of pain or anxiety for a brief time. Our Lady of Wisdom, pray for us.

Please stop discussing transubstantiation/consubstantiation in this thread. There are already several members pushing to have this thread abruptly closed & forced into silence after one priest gave his opinion, and I very badly wish to be able to post the response of the CAF apologist on this question. I believe this is a very important and dear question to the heart that is being asked and it would be a grievous lose if further insight were not able to be given.
Will do.

God bless and keep you, Friscus.

Thank you for sharing. You have the fortune of having a true servant of God, a merciful shepherd for a priest. I see that back in post #26, you received his answer. No other opinions matter. Seek his counsel, avoid these frivolous debates here.

Question:Taking protestant communion as a Catholic Candidate?

Response From Apologist Father Grondin:

No, I would advise against that. If you agree with the Church’s teachings and want to become Catholic why would you participate in a religious service that is at odds with what the Church teaches? By entering into RCIA you enter into a communion with the Church and are therefore “out of communion” with other faith communities.
I regret - but am in no way sorry - for creating a disconnect between the OP and his priest. I felt this to be a morally important question and one which I refused to let slid for the sake of uniformity. When we receive the Body, Blood, Soul, and Divinity of our Lord Jesus Christ, it is a gift of infinite value, and when I read this thread, I could not possibly see justice being served based on some shallow, legalistic grounds that the OP was formally not yet Catholic. Our external actions, by God’s grace, should always reflect the disposition of our heart.

I will leave the OP to pray and to discern - by the grace of our generous God - the right decision in this matter. I pray that in becoming Catholic, the OP will be better equipped than ever in being a gracious and loving son to his mother, but one which is ultimately always loyal to our God.

All saints, pray for us to grow closer to our Lord, and to have courage in the face of difficult decisions. Amen.

You’ll get no backlash from me. I was pretty dumbfounded that a priest would say that it was okay. Seems like a no brainer to refrain. 🤷

No, I do not see how in good conscience you could participate in an ostenisbly sacrilegious celebration of communion. Your desire to please your mom is laudable, but this would be a really poor way to do it.

I encouraged the OP to inquire his priest on this matter, because I think it was of utmost importance. It is his priest who KNOWS him and RESPONSIBLE in his formation. No offense to Fr. Grondin but Fr. Grondin does not have the whole story. I think the OP’s priest is looking after him. It is my wish, hope that more priests would be more pastoral. I have only met one in my five decades on this earth and he was a Lutheran pastor. And yes, he acknowledged my Catholic baptism and eventually led me back to the Catholic faith. Even though over half a dozen Catholic priests did not even give me the time of day.

We should ENCOURAGE one such as the OP to seek guidance on all matters with their own priest, if one is so fortunate to have one.

I would rather encourage to person to go with what Father Grondin there says…

WE know him and not the other Priest (with all due respect). Some Priests unfortunately can have received their formation at a low point in seminary teachings at certain places and times in the recent past… Where the Churches Teachings were not clearly taught or some nutty professors were teaching before they got cleared out …
