We try to go to confession with our kids once each month. Infact, it is on my calendar to do so each 1st saturday of the month. Often we take our youngest, who does not go yet so she can see us going. She wants to participate so badly!!!
That is truly wonderful! If I could go back and undo how lax we were in the past-I would.

… It hit me that we ARE a Catholic family, and through all of the “Mom, can’t we skip Mass?,” etc. that elements ARE sinking in and now the boys have a memory of the 4 of us, in line, together, at Christmas, in a beautiful church, waiting for forgiveness. It is a “beautiful” that I never felt before.
👍👍

Wonderful! Glad that you had such a great experience and were able to make an Advent confession with your family.

Done 🙂 We’re back 🙂 I said the priest ( all my boys went first) Wow, that was easy 😉 ONly the 8 year old gave me grief and well, he never wants to go anywhere so…

Cool. Very cool.

Thanks everyone!

So great! Glad you went, I’m sure your Christmas will be very blessed!!

I
The boys have been caught in whirl-wind lying sprees lately. Is confession appropriate? I don’t want to force them to do something that is not really the right thing to do.
Glad to hear you went!!

If you were concerned about physical sickness, you would bring them to a physican, at least for a diagnosis, would you not.

How is their spiritual health any less important.

If you have the authority (and obligation) to make them go to a doctor, you have the authority (and obligation) to have them go to confession ( or at least get into the confessional).

FYI, I don’t let my kids go longer than 2-3 months. I shoot for at least monthly myself.

Technically you’re supposed to go once a year if you commit a mortal sin, right? Is lying a moral sin? I didn’t think so, but it can’t hurt to go anyway even if it’s venial.
No, the Church requires you to go to confession at least once a year (minimum), regardless of one’s own percieved state of sin.

If one is conscience of mortal sin, the Church calls on us to go to confession at the earliest reasonable opportunity.
