Greetings.
In our church, on Ash Wednesday we have a number of masses, with one service being just the liturgy of the WorId.
In the regular Mass, the collection is taken up during the offertory.
My pastor insists there is a liturgy ‘written’ that has this as part of a liturgy of the word service
[somewhere], and is having me look for it.
Because in past years, these services when presided over, usually, by a deacon, there apparently has been confusion on the flow of these services.
I am putting together a book for our deacon this year, including all prayers, readings, etc.
I am hitting a brick wall, though, on finding any links or resources for including a collection.
Is there anyone familiar with this type of thing, or knows of a resource or link?

My thought, otherwise would be to have the collection taken up right before the prayers of the faithful.

Appreciate and grateful for any (name removed by moderator)ut.

Wouldn’t it be simpler just to have it as a retiring collection - have a few collectors with baskets standing at the door?

Wow – I have never been at an Ash Wednesday Mass that had a collection.

I haven’t either, but some churches in this neck of the woods (New England) have been doing it for a while. There are even envelopes made for it. With the weather killing the offerings as it is, it’s not the worst thing. But, what makes this harder is that there is no offertory since this particular service is just a liturgy of the word. I like the suggestion about having collectors at the door, but for starters, our church has two wings, since one was added later. It’s a crazy setup, and would require a lot of collectors. Also, it may have the feeling of bouncers collecting cover charge, or something, except in reverse. I’m not sure our friars would go for that, as that’s never been done before.
My head pastor had pretty much insisted that there is a liturgy that has something to accomodate that, though, I’m pretty sure it doesn’t exist after all this time. I think I will just insert a call for the ushers to take up the collection before the prayers of the faithful.

In the Canadian LoW for Sundays, we are instructed to do the collection just before the dismissal, if one is to be done, and it’s not brought forward until the liturgy is over.
