talking a Mormon friend to a Catholic Church

Hi Everyone!

I was planning on doing a research paper on a mormon going for about 2 months to a Catholic Church.

I wanted to have someone who didn’t really know a lot about catholicism. My friend works great.

I’m not trying to convert her I just want to see how things will change for if anything does. It is also for a class (end of the year project)

The only thing I would like is some advice on what to give her before hand. I thought the day of I would give her a Catholism of the catholic Church and a notebook. In the notebook she could put questions thoughts and feelings. She then would give me the notebook in the end and I could use it in my paper.

Anyway do you all think I should giver her more stuff so she is more framiliar or sould I just have her go in with a notebook?

I know it sounds like a silly paper but I’m actually sort of interested since she has such different beliefs:thumbsup:

Yikes! The Catholic Church can be daunting if you don’t understand what is going on! The least you should do is attend Mass with her, and explain everything that is going on. You may want to give her a Catechism as well and be ready to answer a lot of questions.

I wonder what your Priest would think of your experiment? I would probably ask his permission first.

I think that’s a cool idea, Patty. I suggest you borrow a missalette from the parish and acquaint her with it. Briefly show her the creed, the order of the mass, and then go over the readings for the upcoming Sunday. Point out to her how the readings at each mass, especially the OT reading and the gospel reading, are connected and form a theme for that week’s mass. Many people have never been alerted to the connection and so don’t get the full benefit of the readings.

Most people who attend mass for the first time are surprised at how much bible there is in the mass.

I think that you should go with her. other that that your fine.

I think it’s a little sketchy if you ask me to bring a Mormon person to a Catholic Mass for your own personal glory. Really, what are you trying to accomplish here. I would first discuss with her the teachings of the Church and allow her to ask questions before you bring her into unfamiliar territory, especially something so sacred as the Mass. If you have no other reason besides for your own research, that to me seems like you are using her for your own purposes, which is not a good idea. If she is genuinely interested in Catholicism, by all means, give her a Catholic Bible, the Catechism of the Catholic Church, and maybe some apologetics liturature for her to look at.

Oh I was planning on going with her

Also Anthony02- I’m a Theology Major and it is actually really cool when you do papers like this. She will FULLY know what I am doing. I’m not trying to covert her.

She has gone with me to mass when she was little may be like 2 times. She never had a solid religion growing up so becoming Mormon was easy for her because she didn’t have to dig through years of theology like I have.
