Talking about religion too much?

Keep in mind that religion, like politics or similar subjective concepts, inherently insult the other person you are talking to if you are in disagreement. For example, if your family has an atheist, talking about your religion insults him or her just as they would insult you.
Same for politics, racism, sexism, etc.
This is why it can be a turnoff.

Fine and good, but what did he talk about the rest of the time?

Aw come on—I’m sure you can discuss religion with an atheist without it descending into insults.
My relative who’s an atheist talks to me about religion (I let her bring it up) and she’s cool about it.
We are even still friends 🙂

I’m like Chesterton, all I talk about is religion and politics. I love telling people how much Jesus loves them, and if they have a problem, oh well. Romans 1:16
No point talking at all if you’re going to do.it in such a hamfisted way as.to lose your audience though, and endless talk of religion will often do.just that.

St Francis of Assisi once took one of his friars with him to a town where, he told his companion, they were going to preach to the townsfolk.

They arrived, and the saint simply walked through the town.in silence.from one.side to the other.

As they were leaving the town, the friar said “I thought we were going to preach”. St Francis smiled and said “we just did!”

Good example and good works are often more effective preaching than any amount of words.

Sure, but it often can get heated. OP asked why his family gets upset. It can get ugly. Politics is worse.

I think it was more he was dominating the conversation, which is never a good idea regardless of the topic.
