For me, I chose Other – as it varies based on the church I go to and if I go to EF or OF Masses.
Did they really tell you all of that, or are you embellishing a bit?My former church back home…I was told once that if I wanted to pray before Mass to go to chapel. The church is a social gathering first and if you want to pray in quietness, you better not disrupt the socializing.![]()
So your purpose for praying is to silence others? Oi, I would generally advise staying away from irreverant and manipulative uses of prayer…Our local OF parish is quiet before Mass because most of us are saying the Rosary. After Mass, however, it gets pretty noisy. Some of us have started saying the old Leonine prayers after Mass just to try and quiet folks down somewhat. I think its starting to work.![]()
By whose authority do YOU declare their masses and Eucharist invalid? I shiver at the pride it must take to do so…These loud churches have, in effect, become like a protestant church, where talking among each other in a church “service” is acceptable. They lack the one very important thing that we possess in our churches, namely, the holy Mass, and, of course, Jesus ever present in the tabernacle, body, blood, soul and divinity.
You sure showed them! And what authority did you act on to “put them in their place”? Who appointed you to shepherd others? Are you the priest, or are you a layperson who has self-appointed to serve as liturgy police? For an EF it is very quiet, there was one exception when these 2 men behind me were chatting but I put them in their place pretty quickly![]()
I like your idea about the prayers after, perhaps do something like that before Mass and I am sure either people will participate or keep quiet…Our local OF parish is quiet before Mass because most of us are saying the Rosary. After Mass, however, it gets pretty noisy. Some of us have started saying the old Leonine prayers after Mass just to try and quiet folks down somewhat. I think its starting to work.
The Ef parish we attend monthly is quiet as can be expected with 300 - 500 peolpe plus dozens of kids entering or leaving on a marble floor. Still its quieter than our OF parish.
