My fiance often brings up the bible in our discussions of my religion vs. his religion (born again)…and in relation to that…how do I answer his argument that my church is not the proper true church because in the bible it states the rules about talking in tongues, 3 at a time, translators etc. and yet our church does not do this…in his mind this is equivalent to being in error and therfore not a “real bible teaching church”? I don’t even begin to pretend I know or understand the difference, hence my post and request for wisdom on this point…I fight for God with my mouth and sometimes I fight with Him in my heart…either way - He wins…thanks, many blessings,

Welcome to the forum!

In St. Paul’s day, not everyone talked in toungues. I would even venture to say that there wasn’t even a majority of Christians who talked in tongues. Look at what St. Paul said in 1 Corinthians 12:7-10To each individual the manifestation of the Spirit is given for some benefit.
To one is given through the Spirit the expression of wisdom; to another the expression of knowledge according to the same Spirit;
to another faith by the same Spirit; to another gifts of healing by the one Spirit;
to another mighty deeds; to another prophecy; to another discernment of spirits; to another varieties of tongues; to another interpretation of tongues.
The Church has to embrace ALL the Gifts of the spirit. You will find that these gifts are spread amongst Catholics, and the saints are examples of what these gifts can do. I would recommend a book: Mystics and Miracles: True Stories of Lives Touched by God. by Bert Ghezzi.

I remember the words of a visiting priest who tried to drill into us, “Jesus didn’t give us a bible. He gave us a church! The Catholic Church gave us the bible.”
