Hi, is it OK to talk to Mary, ask her to pray for certain things, thank her for praying for us, etc? Are there any official Church documents that state this?
I don’t know about the documents, but sure, the same as it’s okay to ask any saint to pray for you. She’s as much a part of the body of Christ as any of the saints.
The key is to understand that she is interceding for you, not granting graces herself. She isn’t a goddess, but rather the Queen of Heaven, mother of the King, who intercedes for her people, like the queen of Israel did.
It is totally OK! When I’m in adoration I talk to her. I also wear a medal of Our Lady of Consolation and have prayed novenas to Our Lady in the past. She always intercedes for us.
It’s fine. She’s your mom, Christ gave her to all of us to be our mom.
Talk to her like you would talk to your mom, respectfully of course but it’s fine to just chat and tell her about your day, etc.
There is absolutely nothing wrong with talking to a saint or Christ Himself. I do this from time to time, talking plainly before a crucifix or image of a saint is a pretty good way to work out some spiritual issues.
Yes- this is the act of the rosary. Also Pope encourages Novena of Undoer of Knots which it to Mary. Also if you look at all the visitations Lourdes, Fatima, Medjugoria, and more they have been Mary. She interceded at the Wedding at Cana. Just like in that instance we can go to her and ask her to tenderly speak to Jesus about our questions, requests, praises, etc. Satan is known to run from her. She is a powerful intercessor as well.
