Well I am glad to know that I am not the only one that does it. I do want to add that I never do it in pubilc just when I am alone.
I am a SAHM and find that whenever I’m out without any of the kids (which does NOT happen very often) I will often carry on a monologue about whatever it is I’m doing…“So, let’s see, wow! $3.50 a gallon! That’s insane!” I used to get a lot of weird looks, but now that so many people are using blue-tooth devices, folks just think I’m on the phone. 😃

The only person I’ve ever known who didn’t talk to himself was a man who was so busy he actually had to schedule times to talk to himself. He’d try to call himself on his cell phone to set up a time but the line was always busy so he finally got so mad at himself that he absolutely refused to talk to himself again after that.

He seriously needs to think about investing in call waiting…

If you talk to yourself does it mean that your crazy? I talk to myself when I am alone to help sort through problems…is this bad? Should I stop or get help? I have don’t it most of my life.
NO! 🙂 Just last week I was worrying about this. It is exactly the opposite. It proves you are self aware.

We all talk to ourselves…some even answer themselves. Sometimes we are conscious of this, sometimes not. The possibly psychotic “talking to onself” that could indicate some serious mental disorder is when one truly and fully believes that some other distinct person or being is doing the talking/communicating.
Blessings this Easter…Barb:)

I think - so long as you’re not hearing someone who’s not there - or doing it in public where it’s obvious they’re talking to someone who’s not there - otherwise, nothing wrong with it. I do think alot of it comes from either running your thoughts to yourself aloud - or, at times, just plain loneliness.

If you start arguing with yourself, you might have a problem. 😃
Not really. I imagine that St. Thomas Aquinas did some of this as one of the things that made his Summa Theologica so great was that he anticipated his opponent’s objections and refuted them preemptively. To do this successfully requires one to practice playing “devil’s advocate” with oneself through verbal debates. Just some food for thought. 😃

God bless,

Adam

Dear Catholic08,

Sure I talk to myself, especially in the supermarket, so
I can remember what I am there to buy.

I take the attitude:

“Talking to myself is the only way that I
can get my own attention.” 😊

.
Isn’t that like itemizing/airing your list in public? LOL - can’t be talking to yourself - you’re talking to the grocery cart, and that’s what they put the carts there for - right ?😃 Hmmm - maybe just try singing to the music that’s piped in.

The funny thing is I thought this thread’s question would be about - is it a SIN to talk to yourself - I was getting nervous.

I have done the same for years. I think I may have Attention Deficit or something. Talking things through helps me stay on task and not get distracted. I suppose a list would be less distracting to others. I don’t think you are crazy, unless you start answering yourself back in different voices.😉
