St. Michael the archangel, defend us in battle, be our protection against the wickedness and snares of the devil. May God rebuke him we humbly pray, and do thou O prince of the Heavenly Host, by the power of God, thrust into Hell Satan, and all the evil spirits who prowl about the world seeking the ruin of souls. Amen.

Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee. Blessed art thou among women and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death. Amen.

I don’t know who Fr. Rippenger is, but looking at this quotes, he simply does not know whereof he speaks when commenting on pschological and psychiatric matters.

Bipolar disorder, for one thing, is a chemical imbalance that can usually be controlled by the proper medicine.

You say you don’t know who he is, well, look into it – his credentials are very established. You can make an off hand comment about him not knowing, but he knows what he is speaking about, and has written books on the subject, and there are videos and further talks available. 😃

Listening to the quotes in context and his other talks will help further.

Is the spelling of Father’s name correct? I did a google search and his name didn’t show up at all. I would think if he is an author as well his name would show.

Apologies, above it is not spelled right. It is:

Fr. Chad Ripperger, Phd., F.S.S.P. he is a professor of dogmatic and moral theology and philosophy at Our Lady of Guadalupe seminary, and if you just do a search on his name, as well as read the web page linked above you will find some of his talks and papers.

I have recently ordered his book, ‘Introduction to the Science of Mental Health’ and there are some video talks about the book linked to on the website, ‘Sensus Traditionis’. I highly anticipate it being a good read.

My father is a doctor of psychology, and I have studied psychology as well as Catholic spirituality for many years, though not professionally. So I just want to say that this is something that is serious business, not a lark on the side, and something I have hoped to see for a long time – finally a book with a proper modern approach to psychology founded in Catholicism.

These talks are very worth listening to and should be taken seriously. 🙂

Father Ripperger is an excellent Priest and certainly knows what he is talking about. Just because many psychologists today will say one thing about a particular psychological disorder does not mean what they claim is an infallible truth. I would venture to guess that most psychologists today are Atheists who deny the soul, as well as the realm of the preturnatural and supernatural.

Think of all those with psychological problems in the Bible. It was the same thing over and over again: Jesus would cast out a devil and the person’s psychological problem was healed.

My mother was a counselor and psychology is “in my blood” so to speak, so I’ll be very interested in these books also!

I have received his latest book, which is a three volume in one compilation of his psychology books the other day and have just begin. It is living, breathing Thomism. He appears to be rebuilding the science of psychology from the ground up, based in Thomism and Catholic spiritual knowledge combined with the good and discarding the bad from current psychology.

He states plainly that it is his hope that his books on this subject will be a seed for further work in the area so that the science develops from real roots rather than materialistic ones.

However I have only just begun on it, as it takes deep thought for every page, and can’t give an in depth report on it yet. I normally read very swiftly, but this has too much to consider to go swiftly with and is provoking a lot of thought and mental adjustment to understand the approach thoroughly.

Does his writing (not the subject matter, which sounds like just what I’ve been searching for) make sense to you? And does it seem that he is successfully able to convey in writing, rather than only in his mind or only in speech, what his thought processes are regarding this topic?

Was his book one that is found online only or from a Catholic bookstore or…?

Very interesting, relating psychiatric disorders to demonic possession. That is not a new idea in literature. There may be truth to it.

However, I think psychiatric disorder has more to do with the psychiatric prescriptions being used today. Many people start taking psychiatric prescriptions without being fully aware of their effects and are never the same again.

You can order it off of his site, Sensus Traditionis, or through Fraternity Publications.

Yes, it makes clear sense, though one has to take some time to make certain one understands the definitions and build upon them, one is given what one needs to understand their precise boundaries. He is successful in conveying what he has written, and I have to say, having had time to read further into it, and turning to certain sections without going straight through – this book altogether appears to be essential reading, the sort one truly cannot do without if one is capable of handling the material – which is heavy in that it requires a certain level of intelligence and thought, but well written.

I hope I will be able to comment further upon this in the future, there is certainly a great breadth of material that bears being repeated.

May you and all have a holy and blessed Good Friday, I pray.
