Tall mitres vs. short mitres

I have a question regarding a Bishops mitre. I have noticed that in days gone by the mitres were very tall, almost comically so, but now a days the mitres worn by Bishops seem to be a great deal shorter. The taller mitres are still worm by the SSPX Bishops so I’m wondering if this was a result of Vatican II or something else.
 
Contemporary people resonate less on average with the imagery of ecclesial authorities being like princes to guard & strengthen us. At one point it might have commonly elicited beauty and inspiration, but that won’t necessarily be the case and might even be misconstrued into a negative light.

Vatican II didn’t comment about mitres.

But at the end of the day, fashion is fashion. Tall mitres. Short mitres. Fat mitres. Skinny mitres.

Not directly because of V2, but liturgical fashion became less imposing after the Council, so, shorter mitres.
 
Changes with fashions of the times and places. If you look at ecclesiastical art in a Book of Hours or stained glass dating from the 12th and 13th centuries you’ll notice depictions of short mitres.
 
Mitres have changed much through the centuries.

You can notice a difference in ordinary clothes as well during the centuries or even decades. The collars will be larger or smaller on shirts. Ties wider or narrower or also how they are tied around the neck. Women´s skirts will be longer when times are hard and shorter during good times. Bathing costumes is a chapter of it’s own.
