I would never, even under torture threats, go and buy tampons for anyone (after what I read about them here),
Just imagine me, in a grocery store asking the lady if she got any tampons…(I probably should be more explicit with my question)…if they sell any tampons. (NOT FOR ME, I would add quickly).

My husband doesn’t mind buying anything for me. To him, he doesn’t think about it. I will admit he plays the stupid trick of “Holy toledo there are so many choices!” that it gets me to just give up and get it myself the next chance I get. But when I’m in the hopsital after birth, he’ll get me pads or something if I’ve run out…As long as I’m VERY explicit in size, kind, what the package looks like, etc… he’ll find it. It’s amazing how your perspective on things as simple as pads and tampons will change once you’re married. And with us having three girls’… if he has ANY remaining hesitation, he better get over it before they hit their monthlies because the bathroom will explode with them.
As for the diva cup… it’s just like the Keeper. It’s literally a cup that goes over the cervix to catch menstrual flow. Google it…

Off note, the most random thing that has ever happened to me was when I woke up one morning a year ago, and I was just on the verge of waking up, and something was beneath my bottom. Oh, alack, it happened to be a tampon! O_O Talk about morning weirdness…
I suspect that it was my brothers, but then again, my little bros would never do that.
Any guy who’s man enough to ask for tampons or pads, is a real man. Congrats, ye wives! Maybe this will entice other men to conquer their fears! ahem, Tomaskovarik

What’s the big deal for a man to go buy these products? Are they afraid the clerk might think it’s for him? My wife buys me underwear all the time, and never gives it a second thought.
Perhaps they might announce on the speaker, “Register three, price check on Brand X Maxi-Pads, please.” Then repeat, “Could I get a price check on Brand X MaxiPads for the gentleman at register three.”
I have two words for the man who wouldn’t go buy these things for his wife or kid, if needed.

My dh would agree! He kinda freaks over all the choices though, so I give him the wrapper from my old package to shop by - which is really frustrating because they keep changing the packaging it seems and I don’t use them enough to keep up on the changes! So after every baby, my dh has to go on a pad expedition for me. Bless him for his bravery.

Thank you. Both my father and my husband have purchased these products for me. In fact, my father has been a manager at a drug store and was at one time better equiped to handle some of the purchases than I was. He was the one that made the trip after the birth of my dear son, since my husband was with me.

I, like many, started using tampons because of swimming. Gym class, naturally. When I started my period, my mom told me about both pads and tampons, told me it was my choice entirely and she would buy me whatever I wanted, and that she preferred pads and my sister preferred tampons. I used pads mostly up until college, and then switched to tampons mostly because that was what my roommates were all using. I’ve used tampons exclusively ever since. I really prefer plastic applicators, they just go in easier for me. I would recommend only buying tampons with applicator for a young girl, I’ve been using tampons for years and can’t even handle the non-applicator ones.
Funny (and gross) story. My cat once dug into the trash one day and found a tampon in there. Boy did he have a fun time dragging it all over the house by the string! My little brother was the one to find it, but he was really young and he didn’t know what it was. He was actually playing with the cat with it! I had to grab it away from kitty and throw it back away somewhere else where he couldn’t get it back. Eeeeeww!

I didn’t use them until after I had a child, for some reason they always felt “weird” or I could “feel them” until after having a child and obviously being “stretched” my daughter is 12 and has not started her first period but has made it clear she doesn’t want to try tampons so I won’t push it on her, its totally up to her.
My mom let me decide for myself and I tried tampons on and off but I just hated them and still I’m not too big on them, they actually make my cramps so much worse, now my sister used them from day one when she was 13 and that is all she ever used or has used and she didn’t even think twice about it, so everyone is different and every person’s body will react different.

My 12 year old just got started and she is on a swim team. I provided her with a couple of different brands of tampons and explained that they should be used in the pool instead of pads.
She went to practice yesterday but I noticed the tampon boxes un-opened Practice was apparently uneventful but I wonder if I should push the issue a little bit… 
If swimming with a pad, couldn’t that be really messy, not to mention unhygenic for all swimmers in the pool? Do pads break apart like diapers do??

No offense, but that menstrual cup thing sounds awful. How are they removed? Do you disinfect them? Do you just wash them in a sink in public restrooms? Do you keep a clean one in your purse to insert in a public restroom and then rinse out the soiled one and put it in your purse? How do they stay in place?

I have a story. When my first daughter was 3 or 4, she saw an episode of Blue’s Clues all about recycling and reusing things. She used to keep a “stash” of hidden items under her bed and one day I found a used cardboard tampon applicator. I was, of course, horrified and asked why she had it. She explained that she found it in the trash and decided to “recycle” it, so she rinsed it of in the sink and used it for a “horn” :bigyikes: I was so MAD at that doggone Steve!

Tampons are ideal for swimming. Pads should never be used in the water. You are safe. Furthermore, my 12 year old lives miles and miles from you. What’s more, she is officially much more educated on the difference than she was 24 hours ago and is no longer a health danger near the pool!Oh yeah, thanks.

Karin - I later learned that she went to practice wearing nothing -
- apparently a friend told her that water stops the bleeding so she thought as long as she was in the water she was OK.As much as she doesn’t want to talk to her dumb old mom about such things, I used it as an example to show that she will get the straight truth from home - not to believe everything she hears outside the safety of her own house!! Oy vay!!
