TAN Books Purchased by St. Benedict Press

CHARLOTTE, North Carolina, NOV. 20, 2008 (Zenit.org).- Saint Benedict Press has purchased TAN Books, the publisher of more than 600 traditional Catholic books.

The announcement was made this week that the assets of TAN were purchased by the owners of Saint Benedict Press, a North Carolina-based publisher of Catholic classics. TAN, founded in 1967, had been struggling financially.

TAN Books and Publishers will remain an independent imprint within Saint Benedict Press, maintaining its brand identity.

Brent Klaske, who will assume general management of TAN, said he was “thrilled that we will be able to continue our mission of sharing faithful Catholic books with people around the world.”

Among the Classics published by TAN include the Baltimore Catechism series, the Douay-Rheims Bible, St. Teresa of Avila’s “Conversation with Christ,” and “The Dialogue” of St. Catherine of Siena.

I’m glad they were able to find someone who would keep them publishing. II’m not sure what caused their financial problems, but I hope those don’t continue.

I have never heard of St. Benedict Press. I would hope that the new owners do not elilminate the conservative line of publications that TAN books sold. Something like that happened to Sheed & Ward for example.
