My daughter has SUPER curly beautiful hair. It isn’t thick yet…she’s only 2. But tangly is not a strong enough word ans she is our ‘delicate flower’ so we try to be as soft as possible.

I found Aussie Calming milk. I comes in a small bottle with a pump. It smells great & isn’t greasy or sticky.

Another product we’ve used is Curls Rock…I THINK it’s Bed Head. It also works as a gel to control the curl and the frizz.

Good luck and be sure to tell us how it turns out!
I have curly ringlet hair. And i love Curls Rock. It really keeps my haird curly and with the curl booster it gives my hair such bounce.

Who ever said don’t use pantene is wrong. I love it. My hair dresser even asked me what i was using because my hair was so soft and wasn’t breaking as much as it use to. I use the Ice Shine verision. You will get build up with an product so you will occasionaly need to swtich shampoo’s for a day or two. no matter what product you use.

Here is a picture of my daughter’s hair.

As you can see it is wavy at the ends. I’ll try braiding it.

I normally do the brushing after a shower as I shower the kids on Saturday morning when my wife is out doing grocery shopping then.

My wife’s and youngest daughter’s hair is very thin, so she does not have these problems.

Thanks for all of your tips. I’ll try the conditioners:)

My hair seems similar to your daughters, kind of wavy curly and super thick. Right now I’m using the Herbal Essences Shampoo. I’ve used a couple of the different kinds, right now the none of your frizzness one. I agree a good conditioner is important.

I use these combs:

They do a good job on untangling without breaking my hair. I comb right after I get out of the shower while it is still wet. You just have to be gentle, starting a the bottom and working up, so you don’t break the hair.

And I agree, braiding is a good way to keep it from tangling.

We have an Aussie spray called “Hair Insurance.” It’s a leave-in conditioner/detangler. Not all of them are both. This one is not heavy, which is important as I passed on my fine hair to my daughters. We always comb our hair in the bath or shower with regular conditioner on it. Makes after bath combing much easier. We use the leave-in as a back up for when we forget or need a little extra on a dry day.

Your daughter’s hair is very lovely. 👍 😃 I think from her hair texture the tangles should be kept at bay by a good conditioner and braiding (especially at night). You could do a side braid a la Mrs. Ingalls (remember the mom on Little House on the Praire?).

As for another poster stating that Pantene creates build-up, **I have never had a problem with it **and have been using it for close to 10 years. If you don’t believe me maybe a pic of my hair will serve as testimony. If Pantene conditioner can help the tangles in my waist-length lion’s mane of hair it can help anybody’s hair! LOL 😛

Keep us updated on your beautiful daughter!

Peace.

Some or most of the store bought product do cause build up after a time. Mostly the conditioner will do this. If you want to save a buck or two remember the shampoo has to be for moisture rather than volume you can get away with cheap shampoo but not conditioner. I like biolage by matrix. Sebastian works really well too for thicker hair. I worked in a Aveda concept salon and you gotta be careful with their products because some have more protien rather than moisture. You might like the biosilk line too.

:o Dang, I wish I had all these posts of advice when I was a kid. I can’t tell you how many knots my mom cut out of my head because i couldn’t get a smaller knot out and it grew and grew and grew. I don’t even have “problem hair,” per se - it’s mostly straight and super fine. But it does get static-y, especially in the winter, and tangles fairly easily. I definitely agree with the poster who said cut it shorter to help her learn how to care for it on her own - maybe she can save herself from the teary nights of getting knots cut out and the remaining pieces painfully brushed out. :o

I just wanted to say thanks to everyone. I went to the grocery store last week with a printout of these posts.

I did check out tail and mane, which is made for horses AND Humans - check out their website, but I could not find their conditioner on line or locally.

I ended up buying Pantene Ice Sheen(sp?), and my daughter used it yesterday morning. She said her hair felt different and unfortunately I was distracted and did not get to brush it till it was mostly dry. I was worried that it was too dry and would be very difficult to untangle, but I was shocked discover that the brush went through it very easily - the expression - like butter came to mind.

I was stunned as we have been having such a difficult time for about 5 years now with her hair and the solution was something so simple.

We’ll also watch for the build up of Pantene on her hair and change the conditioner with Johnson’s which I also purchased.

I think my daughter’s hair now has “longer waves” in it - is that makes any sense. It seems to have a shine to it now, but I am not sure if this is my imagination or the conditioner.

So thanks again for your advice!!!

Wonderful news!!! 👍 I am glad to hear that your daughter’s hair is like butter. 😉 I think alot of people use the dreaded term “build-up” when in reality all conditioners leave a coating on the hair to lock in shine and moisture. The simplest thing to do if you are really leary of the possibility of build-up is to use a clarifying shampoo once every two weeks. It will leave her hair squeaky clean so make sure to leave the conditioner in a longer time since the clarifying shampoo can make ones hair feel alittle on the dry side.

There are alot of women who have found their wavy hair gets alittle curly when they start to **properly moisturize their hair **so that is probably what is happening with your sweet daughter’s hair.

You should visit the www.naturallycurly.com site as they got alot of members who have wavy hair and then discovered they got some curl when they started moisturizing deeply their hair. There are lots of tips to be found over there in the forums. They even got pages with reviews and user ratings on products.

Keep up the good work and God bless you and your daughter.

Peace from the “Pantene” freak. 😛
