"…Met Police Commissioner Sir Ian Blair has defended the decision to invite a controversial Muslim scholar to speak at a police-sponsored conference.

Tariq Ramadan’s US visa was revoked in 2004 for “security reasons”.

Mr Ramadan has been accused of supporting attacks in Israel and Iraq. He publicly condemned the 11 September and London attacks.

Sir Ian said his was an important voice that would be listened to by young radicalised Muslims.

He said Mr Ramadan, who was also previously banned in France, had been visiting the UK for five years.

Sometimes Acpo and police organisations try to be so PC that they cross the line and in my view they have crossed the line. They should withdraw their support

Norman Brennan
“We can’t understand why he’s banned in the US, (and) he is no longer banned in France,” Sir Ian said.

Perhaps this article of awhile back by de Borchgrave will re-emerge:

"…Tariq Ramadan is radioactive. Speak to any Christian in the Arab world, and “roadkill” is the nicest thing you’ll hear about him. For the left - especially the far left - the grandson of the founder of the incendiary Muslim Brotherhood, the most important Islamist movement of the 20th century, is just in from a little stroll on the Sea of Galilee.

For France’s influential Jewish intellectuals - Bernard-Henri Levy, Andre Glucksmann, Bernard Kouchner - Ramadan is a dangerously skillful anti-Semite.

"…In a televised debate with France’s then Interior Minister Nicolas Sarkozy late last year, Mr. Ramadan declined to condemn “lapidation” - the stoning of adulterous wives as mandated by a strict interpretation of the Koran. Instead, Mr. Ramadan said he favored a “moratorium” in the practice.

A multimillionaire from the sale of countless thousands of cassettes of his mesmerizing sermons, Mr. Ramadan is lionized by the jobless North African slum-dwellers that cling barnaclelike to France’s major cities. The neo-Marxist, anti-globalization left has also hitched its bandwagon to his star status in French-speaking Europe.

"… Mr. Ramadan’s apocalyptic, nihilistic vision appears to some as a scene setter for the center-stage appearance of Osama bin Laden Superstar.

The author of a dozen books, Mr. Ramadan lets fly staccato-style, at the speed of an AK-47 on full automatic, quotations from Nietzsche, Heidegger and the Koran to prove a central point: Decadent Europe will give way to an Islamized Europe.

The 21st century, he says, will see a second role reversal between Islam and the West: “The West will begin its new decline, and the Arab-Islamic world its renewal” and ascent to seven centuries of world domination after seven centuries of decline.

The fully European Islam, he predicts, presupposes a violent upheaval against the Western values Mr. Ramadan rejects. But he quickly cushions the supposition with hosannas to democracy and free expression. He is a past master of dissimulation and disinformation.

“Only Islam can achieve the synthesis between Christianity and humanism, and fill the spiritual void that afflicts the West.” All good people are implicitly Muslims, he maintains, “because true humanism is founded in Koranic revelations.”

“Today the Muslims who live in the West must unite themselves to the revolution of the anti-establishment groups from the moment when the neoliberal capitalist system becomes, for Islam, a theater of war” is another thunderclap that says “jihad” to his detractors and sweet reasonableness to his fans. "

"…This, in turn, would replace the values of Western civilization. Islam-centric thinking thus replaces Eurocentric rearview mirror nostalgia for what was once a great civilization.

Muslim identity is the only true source of universality, proclaims Tariq Ramadan. “It will fill the spiritual void that afflicts the West.” Music to some, but a hidden Islamist agenda to the Department of Homeland Security. Some would say not so well-hidden."

Unfortunately, he is correct here. Unless Europe (and the US in 10-20 years) changes their ways, this scenario will come true. The only blessing we have in the US is that many of our immigrants (Latin Americans) are Christians, mostly Catholic. If we can keep them from the Protestant cults, we may have a Catholic America (or at least some Catholic states) in 50 years.

The demograhics in Europe are changing so drastically and as I read various projections – it’s staggering. But I was truly stunned that Mr. Ramadan was invited to speak – in light of current events – it’s absolutely baffling.

I know I was a bit rough, but this has been going on for a long time in Geat Britain, and we (USA) are heading that direction. Some times the truth needs to be shouted.

That’s true but we have to be wary of painting with too broad a
brush; the downside of living in a free and open society where all are made welcome and all are entitled to their “rights” is that the focused, dedicated terrorists use that free system against that very society. One has to be careful in the balancing of keeping the society open and free and taking care of the beasties.

Secondly, no government can loudly proclaim everything they know and have on forces within that nation trying to bring it down. It simply cannot.

There are many in the UK who love their nation (s), want to stay open, want to make a society free of terrorism but are forced to work within the present “climate” abroad in the wrold – one does not win the war by being marginalised in the culture.

Remember the warning the Queen gave when the cult of Diana was in its full blossom, there are forces in this country which seek to bring it down by using these kind of events – she was spot on.

All nations make mistakes, they are seen only in hindsight. One does the best one can - but being human alas, we lack the ability to accurately forecast how what we do will turn out often.

Suffice to say the UK has been a strong ally with the US, Tony Blair will be remembered by me always for standing up to the tremendous pressure brought by Chirac and Mr. Villepond and many many people there feel as frustrated, as angry and as betrayed by those who “have ears but do not hear”, who have eyes, “but do not see”.

Additionally, everyone who disagrees is not entitled to be called an idiot…they simply disagree, their POV, their digesting years of propaganda, their slanted educations all play a part in their POV. God help us if we stifle all “loyal voices of dissent”. OTOH the Cliveden set still flourishes. We have them in the Church and in our governments. When Mussolini was being hailed as the “savior of Europe” Churchill was being called a war monger. Some events will speak for themselves eventually.

So it isn’t what you say sometimes, it is how you say it. Don’t paint with so broad a brush – don’t lend yourself to the “language of excess” which flows – the extreme left always tries to whip up hysteria, dissatisfaction, and hyperbole. When that fails they try to shut people up by using negative descriptions of them… In the end it will be the voice of reason I hope which defeats them and their agenda.

But we digress from the thread subjet – I cannot believe that anyone who knows about Tariq would have him speak – giving him that kind of affirmation is the very kind of thing upon which he thrives and has become a 'spokesperson". The more you read about him — it’s old wine in a new wineskin and a sour one indeed.
