What is meant by a “fortified” wine? Do they add something to it?A parishi for which I worked in Colorado switched from Carlos Rossi Burgundy to a variety of Angelica Fortified wine. The reason for the switch is that fortified wines have a higher alcohol content and server a greater antiseptic purpose (because of the common cup). Let me tell you, first communions became quite humorous - watching a 7 or 8 year old get his/her first sip of wine and basically take a good swallow of brandy. Does anyone else’s parish use a fortified wine?
