Mine is a breakfast/brunch choice. We eat with fresh fruit on the side.

I’ve made tater tot casseroles off and on throughout my life with Mr Beachcomber and they are always well received. And I loved all the recipies everyone has posted. They all contain something different from what I’ve been using.

And then, too, there was the time I had no tater tots in the freezer but only a sack of frozen french frys. In extreme circumstances, french frys can be substituted with no ill effects!!

Thanks for this thread - I used the Duggar recipe with elk meat tonight. It was super tasty - Greg said it was the best casserole he’s ever had. :aok:

We also use this as a first night camping recipe. Mixes up fast then cooks while we are continuing to set up camp.

We use gluten free/ dairy free cream of mushroom soup. Or my chef-hubby makes a quick cream sauce. We use canned green beans to make it a complete meal. The frozen ones get wrinkled funny and the kids don’t like them that way.

We use ground turkey or elk meat too.

And yup :yup: we had it just the other night. The only thing better than tater tot casserole? Left-over tater tot casserole. The flavors really permeate the tater tots.

Before I met my hubby I would never have considered tater tots in a casserole. Ewwww was my first response. He asked, “How do you grow up in the potato state and never try tater tot casserole?” I now stand corrected. YUM! 👍

You might be able to get away with our family’s version, because it thickens up really well, so it’s not “saucy” like alfredo sauce would be. It’s based on the Duggars’ recipe, with a couple changes: beef instead of turkey (yuck!), and cream of mushroom soup only because of that.

TATER TOT CASSEROLE
1 lb ground beef cooked, seasoned, drained
3 lb tater tots
2 cans cream of mushroom
1 cans evaporated milk

Brown meat & place in large cass. dish.
Cover with tater tots. Mix soup & milk together.
Pour over top. Bake at 350 for 1 Hour.

Once it’s done, you can scoop it out into a large bowl and mush it all up together to form something like sloppy joes, that way there’s no “sauce” appearance at all.

It’s delish! 👍
Sounds really good but he won’t eat anything with cream of mushroom/chicken soup or milk. He’s NO FUN.

He also complains when I make chicken, doesn’t like cheese, no tomatoes etc. etc. He is no fun to cook for…and then he has the nerve to complain that we keep having the same, boring meals over and over.

I made it and it was good, next time will add a little garlic to the beef. I wanted to add veggies, but my wife will not eat them.

Do you get the GF/DF cream of mushroom soup in a can and if so, where!! Please tell, sometimes I just don’t have the energy to have to make my own sauce.

It is shelf safe, but it is in a box/carton. We get it from the natural food section of our Fred Meyer store. I don’t have one on hand right now to tell you the brand. But I will do my best to remember when we get it again. I think it tastes better than canned by a WHOLE lot!
