I wasn’t sure where to put this topic because I’m new here.
Anyway, I’ve been interesting in tattoos/tattooing for a while and was wondering what I should do if I get a job as an artist and someone requests a depiction of a god from another religion or imagery from another religion such as Hinduism, Buddhism, even Satanism.

Any and all religious tattoos including Masonic I wouldn’t do if I were in your shoes. Personally I wouldn’t do that job at all. I wouldn’t want to be asked before being allowed to enter the Pearly gates why I tattooed tons of people when the old testament forbids it.

I think you have asked a very good question. You chose a good time to ask it too, before the situation arose on your watch! I think the answer is also a question that only you can answer! What will YOU do? 🙂 God bless you!

I would imagine that you would often be asked to tattoo vulgar or offensive images or words, in that particular profession. It might be a challenge for you.

Perhaps you could concentrate on developing skills in drawing artistic images (like floral designs, geometric designs etc). If you were really good at it, you might well find employment doing just those type of inkings.

My son is a tattoo artist. He is particular about what he will do; before turning to Christ he would do no drug or gang related tatoos. Now he will only do religious art if it is reverent, and will do depiction of other deities as long as they do not overtly disrespect other faith traditions.

Thank you all for the wise advice.
My personal opinion is that it is fine to draw depictions of gods or imagery from other religions as long as it is not pornographic (it’s a sad thought that anyone would want to treat images of their own gods in this way at all), but I wanted to see what fellow Catholics had to say.
I’m not going into this profession any time soon, so I have a lot of time to think about it. I may end up refusing to tattoo anything that is not neutral or Christian. Who knows? 🤷
